Bob Glidden's '78 Ford Fairmont Pro Stocker

As far as win-loss percentages go, no drag racing vehicle can match the exploits of Bob Glidden's '78 Ford Fairmont, which debuted at the Edgewater Winston Championship Series (WCS) points race on July 8, 1978, and was retired at the end of that season undefeated with 25 consecutive round-wins. Raced during the days of weight-break factors for Pro Stock, Glidden said that he built the car because NHRA had added weight to his previous Ford Pinto, which Glidden felt made it uncompetitive.

Working with chassis builder Don Hardy, the longer-wheelbase Fairmont was built in just two weeks. It set a national record of 8.76 on its first run and won the Edgewater event. Glidden went on to sweep NHRA's Grandnational, U.S. Nationals, Fall Nationals, World Finals, and Beech Bend WCS race, claiming his third Winston championship in the process.
