The Greer, Black & Prudhomme Top Fuel Dragster

The car that launched the career of Don "the Snake" Prudhomme is also one of the winningest in quarter-mile history with a win-loss record of well more than 90 percent from mid-1962 through 1964. From its Top Fuel-winning debut in Pomona on June 17, 1962, this Keith Black-tuned entry was so dominant that it produced headlines on the few occasions when it was defeated. The car was consistently in the high sevens at more than 190 mph, and it became Prudhomme's stepping stone to his renowned rides with Roland Leong's Hawaiian, which "the Snake" drove in 1965 to then-unprecedented Winternationals and U.S. Nationals wins.

The Greer, Black & Prudhomme entry, originally built by Kent Fuller, was immaculately restored by Steve Davis for owner Bruce Meyer during a 17-year period. Prudhomme sat in it once more during the pre-race ceremony at the 1994 Winston Finals, Prudhomme's last event as an active driver.
