Saturday Qualifying Final:

Results Saturday after the final rounds of qualifying at
Bandimere Speedway, the third of six events in the North
Central Division in the 1997 NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag
Racing Series:
        On a day in which temperatures here soared into
the 90s, Federal-Mogul Dragster driver, Jay Payne, and
Federal-Mogul Funny Car driver, Cy Chesterman, soared into
the top qualifying spots in the Big A Thunder on the
Mountain event at Bandimere Speedway, a part of the NHRA
Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series. Payne won with an elapsed
time of 5.833 and a speed of 240.12 mph.  Chesterman out
ran the others with an elapsed time of 6.013 and a speed
of 234.49 mph.
        Finals begin here tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.  Gates
will open at 8:00 a.m. and dragsters and funny cars make
their first runs at 1:00.
