Results Friday after the first round of qualifying at
Douglas International Raceway, the fourth of six events in the
West Central Division in the 1997 NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag
Racing Series: Due to rain, qualifying  for the NHRA Federal-
Mogul Drag Racing Series event held at Douglas International
Raceway has been postponed until Saturday, July 12.

Qualifying will resume on schedule at 8 a.m.  The Federal-
Mogul Dragsters and Funny Cars will receive two qualifying
laps at 2 and 5 p.m., elimination rounds for all classes
begin Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

After the second day of qualifying at the NHRA Federal-
Mogul Drag Racing Series at the Douglas International Raceway,
Jay Payne and Vern Moats are the top qualifiers in the
Federal-Mogul Dragster and Funny Car categories, respectively.
Jay Payne qualified number one in Federal-Mogul Dragster with
a great 6.05-second, 231-mph run.  In Federal-Mogul Funny Car
Vern Moats is seated in the top provisional spot with a 6.15-
second, 234-mph pass.

The Federal Mogul Dragsters and Funny Cars begin elimination's
Sunday at 1 p.m., other classes enter eliminations at 9:30 a.m.

Final round results Sunday from Douglas International Raceway,
the the fourth of six events in the West Central Division in
the 1997 NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series:

Advancing from the number two qualifying position, Darryl
Hitchman won the Federal-Mogul Dragster category at the NHRA
Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series event at Douglas
International Raceway Sunday. Joining Hitchman in the
winners' circle was Johnny Gray who claimed the Federal-
Mogul Funny Car crown.

In the final round of Federal-Mogul Dragster Darryl Hitchman
was forced to abort his run due to severe tire shake but won
by luck when his opponent, Mark Taliaferro, smoked his tires
into Hitchmans' lane which resulted in his disqualification
Johnny Gray faced top qualifier Vern Moats in an exciting
final round of the Federal-Mogul Funny Car category. Both
drivers smoked their tires through their runs but Gray made
it to the finish line stripe first earning his first victory
in his Federal-Mogul Funny Car rookie season.
