BATON ROUGE, Louisiana -- Results Friday after the first round of qualifying at the State Capitol Dragway, the third of six events in the South Central Division in the 1997 NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series: After the first day of qualifying at the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series at the State Capitol Dragway, BILLY BYBEE and RON GUSTIN lead the Federal-Mogul Dragster and Funny Car categories, respectively. BILLY BYBEE is currently seated in the provisional top qualifying spot in Federal-Mogul Dragster with a 6.00-second, 227-mph run. In Federal-Mogul Funny Car RON GUSTIN is the early leader with a 6.45-second, near-220-mph pass. BATON ROUGE, Louisiana -- Results Saturday after the second round of
qualifying at the State Capitol Dragway, the third of six events in the
South Central Division in the 1997 NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series:

After the second day of qualifying at the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing
Series at the State Capitol Dragway, Bill Hynes and Todd Paton lead the
Federal-Mogul Dragster and Funny Car categories, respectively. Bill Hynes
is seated in the top qualifying spot, advancing from the number eight
position, in Federal-Mogul Dragster with a 5.75-second, 247-mph run.  In
Federal-Mogul Funny Car Todd Paton is the leader with a 5.96-second,
240-mph pass.

SATURDAY QUALIFYING NOTES: 

The tradition of record breaking performance continued today at Baton Rouge
as three Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series competitors reset their
respective class records. In Super Stock Eliminator (SS/N), James Lee set
the record by running 11.489 e.t. @ 114.53 mph. In Competition Eliminator
two records were set by Mike Trumble (C/SR) with run of 8.961 e.t. @ 143.81
mph, and Greg Stanfield's outstanding run of 7.462 e.t. @  157.01 mph.

As an added bonus for the spectators, St. Capitol Dragway featured JET
DRAGSTERS as an exhibition class. Marvin Celsur (Rowlett TX) driving the
Lone Star Lightning defeated Angel Hortons Jet  Set with a record setting
run of  4.98 e.t. @ 315.01 MPH. Celsur's run was the quickest and fastest
jet dragster run ever in the sport.

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – Eliminations at the third of six events in the South Central Division NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series have been cancelled due to rain. The event has been rescheduled and will be run on Monday, March 17. All qualifying positions for all classes will be maintained and the race will pickup exactly as is. All tickets issued for Sunday will be honored. Gates will open at 7:00 a.m. and eliminations will continue for all classes at 9:00 a.m.

Monday Results:
This race marks Howard's first win in her four-year career in the
Federal-Mogul Dragster class.

The NHRA-Winston Divisional Top Qualifier Bonus, a $105,000 overall series
bonus fund, pays $2,500 per event to top drivers in five classes of cars.
At State Capitol Dragway this weekend, bonus payouts include $1,000 each to
Federal-Mogul Funny Car driver Todd Paton and Federal-Mogul Dragster driver
Bill Hynes, $200 each in Competition and Super Stock awarded to Steve
Benoit and Bob Dennis, and $100 in Stock Eliminator awarded to Patrick
Joffrion.

In addition to the Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series, Federal-Mogul also
sponsors the Federal-Mogul .900 Club which recognizes any driver to run a
perfect 8.900 e.t. in Super Comp, 9.900 e.t. in Super Gas and 10.900 e.t.
in Super Street while winning in eliminations during any divisional or
national event. 

The .900 Club awards at Baton Rouge went to Wayne Henry in Super Street,
Jimmy Lewis in Super Gas, and Larry Bauer and John Brener in Super Comp.
