Results Friday after the first round of qualifying at
the Silver Dollar Raceway, the fourth of six events
in the Southeast Division in the 1997 NHRA Federal-
Mogul Drag Racing Series:

After the first day of qualifying at the NHRA Federal-
Mogul Drag Racing Series at Heartland Park, Michael
Gunderson and Monty Todd lead the Federal-Mogul
Dragster and Funny Car categories, respectively.
Michael Gunderson is currently seated in the
provisional top qualifying spot in Federal-Mogul
Dragster with a 5.83-second, 239-mph run.  In Federal-
Mogul Funny Car Monty Todd is the early leader with a
6.241-second, 223-mph pass.

The Federal Mogul Dragsters and Funny Cars receive
two more qualifying laps on Saturday, at 5 and 8 p.m.,
before final elimination rounds on Sunday.

Saturday Qualifying Final:

Results Saturday after the second session of qualifying
at Silver Dollar Raceway, the fourth of six events in
the Southeast Division NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing
Series:

Michael Gunderson and Michael Simpson are the top
qualifiers for tomorrow's NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing
Series event at Silver Dollar Raceway.

Michael Simpson claimed the pole position in the Federal-
Mogul Dragster category with a track record setting 5.75-
second, 242-mph run to lead Gregory Roberts who followed
in second place with a 5.81-second, 245-mph pass.   A
6.064-second, 241-mph run by Michael Gunderson was enough
to take the top qualifying spot in Federal-Mogul Funny Car,
ahead of Scot Weis, who qualified second with a 6.10-
second, 240-mph lap.

Eliminations for all classes begin Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

Final round results from Silver Dollar Raceway, the
fourth of six events in the Southeast Division NHRA
Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series:

Advancing from the number one qualifying position,
Michael Gunderson won the Federal-Mogul Dragster
category at the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing
Series event at Silver Dollar Raceway Sunday.  
 Joining Gunderson in the winners' circle was Jimmy
Rector who claimed the Federal-Mogul Funny Car
crown.

Facing Gregory Roberts in the final round of Federal-
Mogul Dragster, Michael Gunderson won with a tire
smoking 5.86-second, 244-mph pass to beat Roberts in
a side by side race to the finish line.  Jimmy Rector's
victory in the Federal-Mogul Funny Car category came at
the expense of Von Smith. In the final Rector recorded
a 6.20-second, 225-mph run to take the win.
