Saturday Qualifying Final: 


Jay Payne and Tony Bartone are the top qualifiers after the
final round of qualifying at the Coca-Cola Nationals, part
of the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series at Maple Grove
Raceway.  Payne claimed the number one position in the
Federal-Mogul Dragster category with a 5.632 second,
249.37 mph run to lead Allen Hartley who followed in the
second spot with a 5.755 second, 198.23 mph pass.  A pass
of 5.817 seconds at 241.67 mph put Bartone in the top
qualifying spot in Federal-Mogul Funny Car ahead of Frank
Manzo who qualified second with a 5.819 second, 241.15 mph
trip down the quarter mile.  Kevin Robb captured the number
one qualifying postion in the Competition Eliminator
category with a run of  7.594 seconds, .586 under his index.

First round of eliminations for Federal-Mogul Dragster and
Federal-Mogul Funny Car are set for 12:00 noon.  Gates will
open at 8:00 a.m. with eliminations in all other categories
scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
