FMDRS ready to rumble in Las Vegas

The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will host its first NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series event, presented by Short Line Express Markets and Fat Burger, Nov. 2-4. It is the last of six events in Pacific Division competition.

The race will feature more than 800 cars racing in eight categories including 250-mph Federal-Mogul Dragsters and Federal-Mogul Funny Cars. Drivers will earn points leading to divisional and national championships and compete for a share in the $143,935 purse.

Gates at Las Vegas Motor Speedway open at 7 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Qualifying and time trials begin at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday. On Friday, Federal-Mogul Dragsters and Funny Cars will make one qualifying pass at 3 p.m. and Saturday they will make a final qualifying run at noon, and eliminations will follow at 4 p.m. Eliminations in all other classes begin Sunday at 8 a.m. with Dragsters and Funny Cars scheduled to continue eliminations at noon.

Tickets, including pit pass, are $10 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. A three-day pass is $45. Children 12 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a paid adult.

WHAT: NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series, where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships. Categories include: Federal-Mogul Dragster, Federal-Mogul Funny Car, Competition, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The event is the last of six in Pacific Division competition.

WHERE: The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Las Vegas. Track is located on Speedway Blvd, exit 54 off of Interstate 15.

WHEN: Friday through Sunday, Nov. 2-4, 2001.

SCHEDULE: Time trials and qualifying schedule for the Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series:

FRIDAY, Nov. 2 -- Gates open at 7 a.m. Qualifying and time trials begin at 8 a.m. Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car qualifying is scheduled for 3 p.m.

SATURDAY, Nov. 3 -- Gates open at 7 a.m. Final qualifying and time trials are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car qualifying is scheduled for noon, with first round of eliminations to follow at 4 p.m.

SUNDAY, Nov. 4 -- Gates open at 7 a.m. Eliminations in all other classes begin at 8 a.m. Eliminations for Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car resume at noon.

PURSE: The NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series competitors will compete for cash and contingency awards of $143,935 part of the 43-race, $6.5 million series.

2000 EVENT WINNERS: This is Las Vegas Motor Speedway's inaugural NHRA Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series event.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
FEDERAL-MOGUL POINTS FUND -- a $561,000 point fund from Federal-Mogul, which will be shared by 2001 Federal-Mogul divisional champions and Federal-Mogul national champions. Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven Federal-Mogul national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

SEALED POWER LOW QUALIFIER BONUS -- a $167,500 overall bonus fund from Federal-Mogul's Sealed Power brand to the low qualifiers at each of the 43 Federal-Mogul events and the 24 NHRA national events: $1,000 each in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car; $200 each in Competition and Super Stock; and $100 in Stock.

FEATURES: More than 800 drivers in the eight racing categories. Eight-car fields in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car, featuring five-second, 250 mph side-by-side racing.
