Woodburn Dragstrip to host Division 6 FMDRS

Woodburn Dragstrip will host the Les Schwab Tires Challenge, a round of the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series, July 13-15, 2001. The event is the fourth of six in NHRA Northwest Division competition and will feature more than 350 cars in 10 racing categories.

There will be eight-car fields in Federal-Mogul (FM) Dragster and Federal-Mogul (FM) Funny Car, the 250-mph, alcohol-burning machines. Other classes in competition are Competition, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Comp and Sportsman Motorcycle.

Gates at Woodburn Dragstrip open at 8 a.m. each day and qualifying and time trials begin at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday. FM Dragsters and FM Funny Cars are slated to qualify at 2 p.m. Friday and again at noon and 4 p.m. Saturday. Eliminations begin at 9 a.m. Sunday with FM Dragsters and FM Funny Cars running at noon.

Tickets are $10 Friday, $20 Saturday and $25 Sunday. A three-day pass is $45 and children, 6-14, are $5 each day. Children under 6 are admitted free with a paying adult.

WHAT: Les Schwab Tires Challenge, a round of the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series, where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships. Categories include: Federal-Mogul Dragster, Federal-Mogul Funny Car, Competition, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. WHERE: Woodburn Dragstrip, Woodburn, Ore. Track is located 1½ miles off I-5 at Woodburn exit 271.

WHEN: Friday through Sunday, July 13-15, 2001.

SCHEDULE: Time trials and qualifying schedule for the Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series:

FRIDAY, July 13 -- Gates open at 8 a.m. Qualifying and time trials begin at 9 a.m. Federal-Mogul Dragster qualifying session is at 2 p.m. and Federal-Mogul Funny Car qualifying session is scheduled at 3 p.m.

SATURDAY, July 14 --Gates open at 8 a.m. Final qualifying and time trials are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Federal-Mogul Dragster qualifying sessions are at noon and 4 p.m. and Federal-Mogul Funny Car qualifying sessions are scheduled at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

SUNDAY, July 15 -- Gates open at 8 a.m. Eliminations begin at 9 a.m. Eliminations for Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car begin at noon.

PURSE: The NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series competitors will compete for cash and contingency awards of $138,935, part of the 43-race, $6.5 million series.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
FEDERAL-MOGUL POINTS FUND -- a $561,000 point fund from Federal-Mogul, which will be shared by 2001 Federal-Mogul divisional champions and Federal-Mogul national champions. Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven Federal-Mogul national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

SEALED POWER LOW QUALIFIER BONUS -- a $167,500 overall bonus fund from Federal-Mogul's Sealed Power brand to the low qualifiers at each of the 43 Federal-Mogul events and the 24 NHRA national events: $1,000 each in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car; $200 each in Competition and Super Stock; and $100 in Stock.

FEATURES: More than 350 drivers in the eight racing categories. Eight-car fields in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car, featuring five-second, 250 mph side-by-side racing.
