Super Comp competitor headed to Notre Dame: NHRA Super Comp competitor Kendra Harman, from Sunman, Ind., was the recipient of the Lily Endowment which will give her a four-year, full academic scholarship to the Indiana college of her choice. The Eli Lily Company offers the scholarship to outstanding students throughout Indiana. The 18-year-old Harman, who is also a swimmer specializing in the Butterfly, graduated this year from East Central High School in St. Leon, Ind., and will head to Notre Dame in the Fall.
Harman is also a graduate of NHRA's Jr. Drag Racing League and has been competing in Super Comp since she was 16. She plans to continue drag racing as much as her school schedule will allow although she already knows she'll miss the Federal-Mogul event at Beech Bend Raceway and the U.S. Nationals.
"Of all the things I do, drag racing is my favorite," said Harman with all the enthusiasm of a young woman with the world at her feet. "In elementary school when teachers asked us what we wanted to be someday all the other kids said doctor or lawyer. I always said racecar driver. I wanted to be like Shirley Muldowney."

Jr. racer graduates to FMD: Mick Snyder, a 19-year-old student, was at National Trail Raceway this weekend to upgrade his NHRA license to Federal-Mogul Dragster. Snyder, a resident of DeMotte, Ind., competed in the Pro Outlaw circuit last year.
Snyder used the weekend's first qualifying session to get the license and had two shots to qualify for the eight-car field. Snyder, one of 17 cars vying for position, made a 6.016-second pass at 235.64 mph but the effort was not good enough. Unfortunately, Snyder's second run went awry. On the launch, his steering wheel came off sending him careening on two wheels from the left lane broadside into the right lane guardwall. Snyder was not injured in the incident and the car was only slightly damaged.

Coughlins return to roots: Taking advantage of the down time in the category, Pro Stock Truck competitors John and Mike Coughlin returned to their sportsman racing roots this weekend. The brothers, who live in Columbus, are members of Team Jeg's, currently of Pro Stock Car and Pro Stock Truck fame. The team is comprised of the two Pro Stock Truck competitors and their brothers, Troy and Jeg, who run a Pro Stock car.
The Coughlins brought their familiar yellow dragsters out to Nation Trail Raceway. All the Coughlins campaigned in North Central Division competition for several years before stepping into the pro ranks.
"We couldn't miss this race," said Mike. "This is our home track and we love to race here. We're here strictly for fun."
Mike Coughlin plans to compete again at the next North Central Division Federal-Mogul event at Edgewater Sports Park in Cleves, Ohio, saying he wants to put some runs on his new motor.
