Division 1 FMDRS heads to Lebanon Valley

Lebanon Valley Dragway will host the 4th of July Extravaganza, the fourth of seven NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series events in Northeast Division competition, July 6-8. The event will feature more than 500 cars racing in eight categories, including 250 mph Federal-Mogul Dragsters and Federal-Mogul Funny Cars. Racers will be competing for points leading to national and divisional championships and for cash and contingency awards of $144,535, a part of the $6.5 million, 43-race series.

Gates at Lebanon Valley Dragway open at 8 a.m. each day and qualifying and time trials begin at 11 a.m. Friday. F/M Dragsters and F/M Funny Cars are scheduled to run at 7:30 p.m. The Fireworks Show, including exhibitions by Jet Cars and Pro Mods, will begin immediately following that round of qualifying.

Qualifying and time trials continue Saturday at 9 a.m. FM Dragsters and FM Funny Cars are scheduled to run at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Eliminations begin Sunday at 10 a.m. FM Dragsters and FM Funny Cars are scheduled to run at noon.

Tickets are $15 Friday, $15 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Children 5 and under are admitted free with a paid adult. Military personnel may show their ID for a $5 discount.

Lebanon Valley Dragway is located off I-90 E on route 20. Exit 11E/Route 20 and follow the road 10-12 miles. The track is on the left-hand side, just past the oval dirt track.

NHRA FEDERAL-MOGUL DRAG RACING SERIES: Fact Sheet

WHAT: NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series 4th of July Extravaganza, where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships. Categories include: Federal-Mogul Dragster, Federal-Mogul Funny Car, Competition, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The event is the fouth of six in Northeast Division competition.

WHERE: Lebanon Valley Dragway, West Lebanon, N.Y. Track is located off of the I-90 E on Route 20. Exit 11E/Route 20, and follow 10-12 miles. The track is located just past the oval dirt track on the left hand side.

WHEN: Friday through Sunday, July 6-8, 2001.

SCHEDULE: Time trials and qualifying schedule for the Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series 4th of July Extravaganza:

FRIDAY, July 6 -- Gates open at 8 a.m. Qualifying and time trials begin at 11 a.m. Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car qualifying sessions are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. The Fireworks Show, with an exhibition of Jet Cars and Pro Mods, will begin after F/M Dragster and F/M Funny Car qualifying.

SATURDAY, July 7 -- Gates open at 8 a.m. Final qualifying and time trials are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car qualifying sessions are scheduled at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

SUNDAY, July 8 -- Gates open at 8 a.m. Eliminations begin at 10 a.m. Eliminations for Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car begin at noon.

PURSE: The NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series competitors will compete for cash and contingency awards of $154,535, part of the 43-race, $6.5 million series.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
FEDERAL-MOGUL POINTS FUND -- a $561,000 point fund from Federal-Mogul, which will be shared by 2001 Federal-Mogul divisional champions and Federal-Mogul national champions. Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven Federal-Mogul national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

SEALED POWER LOW QUALIFIER BONUS -- a $167,500 overall bonus fund from Federal-Mogul's Sealed Power brand to the low qualifiers at each of the 43 Federal-Mogul events and the 24 NHRA national events: $1,000 each in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car; $200 each in Competition and Super Stock; and $100 in Stock.

FEATURES: More than 500 drivers in the eight racing categories. Eight-car fields in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car, featuring five-second, 250 mph side-by-side racing.
