Smith, Jensen re-sign multi-year partnership

12/20/2001

"Jensen has shown that they are with us for the long haul and we intend to provide them with marketing program to reward them for their faith in us."
-- Von Smith

Top Alcohol Funny Car racer Von Smith and Jensen Car Audio have agreed on a multi-year marketing program that the duo expects will allow the Oak Ridge, Tenn., racer to make even more noise in 2002.

Smith, who has won numerous IHRA Funny Car titles and most recently the Top Alcohol Funny Car title at the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals, will again compete for the national championship as well as a NHRA Division 2 crown. Smith's freshman season in the class was a prosperous one with a fifth-place finish in the national points standings and a runner-up in the Division 2 chase.

The return of the company that utilizes the slogan that suggests, "If it's too loud, then you're too old," was the shot of positive adrenaline that needed to contend for the 2002 points chase.

"This is a tremendous boost for our team," said Smith. "Jensen has shown that they are with us for the long haul and we intend to provide them with marketing program to reward them for their faith in us.

"Jensen is a natural fit for drag racing and Von Smith Racing intends to take their promotions to the next level. When you have a company that suggests loudness is where you need to be, I can't think of a sport that better exemplifies that mode of thinking."

Smith doesn't rule out a possible graduation to the nitro ranks; "Don't bet against it happening," he says. "Bigger and better things are in the future for us. That is certainly on the agenda, but it is not going to happen overnight. I will say that we are looking very serious at that as an option."
