Division 1 FMDRS heads to Englishtown

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Old Bridge Township Raceway Park will host a round of the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series Aug. 10-12, 2001. The event is the sixth of seven in NHRA Northeast Division competition. It will feature more than 400 cars in eight racing categories, including 260 mph Federal-Mogul Dragsters and Federal-Mogul Funny Cars. Drivers are competing for cash and contingency awards of $154,535, a part of the 43-race, $6.5 million series. They will also earn points leading to national and divisional championships.

Gates at Raceway Park open at 8 a.m. each day. Qualifying and time trials begin at 10 a.m. on Friday and continue at 10 a.m. Saturday. Federal-Mogul Dragsters and Funny Cars will make two qualifying passes on Saturday at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Eliminations begin Sunday at 10 a.m. Federal-Mogul Dragster and Funny Car run first round of eliminations at noon.

Tickets for the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series event are $14 Friday, $18 Saturday and $20 Sunday. A three-day pass is $50 and children, ages 12-16, are $7 Friday, $9 Saturday and $10 Sunday. Children 11 and under are admitted free with a paid adult. All tickets include a pit pass.

The track is located at 230 Pension Rd. in Englishtown. Take exit 9 off the New Jersey Turnpike to Route 18. Go south to Englishtown exit, Route 527, and proceed five miles to Pension Rd. WHAT: NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series, where drivers earn points leading to divisional and national championships. Categories include: Federal-Mogul Dragster, Federal-Mogul Funny Car, Competition, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The event is the sixth of seven in Northeast Division competition.

WHERE: Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, Englishtown, N.J. Track is located at 230 Pension Rd. in Englishtown. Take exit 9 off the N.J. Turnpike to Route 18. SCHEDULE: Time trials and qualifying schedule for the Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series:

FRIDAY, Aug. 10 -- Gates open at 8 a.m. Qualifying and time trials begin at 10 a.m.

SATURDAY, Aug. 11 -- Gates open at 8 a.m. Final qualifying and time trials are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car qualifying sessions are scheduled at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

SUNDAY, Aug. 12 -- Gates open at 8 a.m. Eliminations begin at 10 a.m. Eliminations for Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car begin at noon.

PURSE: The NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series competitors will compete for cash and contingency awards of $154,535, part of the 43-race, $6.5 million series.

BONUS PROGRAMS:
FEDERAL-MOGUL POINTS FUND -- a $561,000 point fund from Federal-Mogul, which will be shared by 2001 Federal-Mogul divisional champions and Federal-Mogul national champions. Divisional awards include $8,500 each to the Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car champions; $3,000 to the champions in both Competition and Super Stock; $2,000 each to the champions in Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas and Super Street. The seven Federal-Mogul national champions will share a bonus of $135,000.

SEALED POWER LOW QUALIFIER BONUS -- a $167,500 overall bonus fund from Federal-Mogul's Sealed Power brand to the low qualifiers at each of the 43 Federal-Mogul events and the 24 NHRA national events: $1,000 each in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car; $200 each in Competition and Super Stock; and $100 in Stock.

FEATURES: More than 400 drivers in the eight racing categories. Eight-car fields in Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car, featuring five-second, 250 mph side-by-side racing.
