Manzo and Bozzelli take top honors at Numidia Raceway

NUMIDIA, Pa.- Federal-Mogul Dragster driver Cliff Bozelli and Federal-Mogul Funny Car pilot Frank Manzo took home the honors at the Division 1 Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series event at Numidia Raceway;

Bozzelli of Absecon, N.J., took on Artie Allen of Jacksonville, Fla., in the final and laid down a 5.648-second pass at 249.23 mph to take the win.

"We had to replace motors between rounds," said Bozzelli. "The motor we used in the final had not been touched since last years Englishtown race."

Morganville, N.J., resident and 6-time national champion Manzo faced Paul Gill of Brockton, Mass., in the Federal-Mogul Funny Car final. His 5.840-second run at 247.79 mph was enough to turn on the win light.

Winners in other categories are Scott Perin of Pen Argyl, Pa., in Comp; Peter Biondo of Mt. Laurel, N.J., in Super Stock; James Marshall of Scottsville, N.Y., in Stock; Tony Gambardella of Williamstown, N.J., in Super Comp; Dan Northrop of Doylestown, Pa., in Super Gas; and Earl Nichols of Wilmington, Del., in Super Street.

In other racing action, the Best Appearing Car award was given to Super Comp competitor Pete Frisina of Farmingville, N.Y. Also, taking home the Best Engineered honors was Peru, Ind., resident Brian Olson for his Competition Eliminator dragster. Finally, the Best Appearing Crew award was given to John Headley's Federal-Mogul Dragster team out of Newportville, Pa.

The Northeast Division Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series makes its next stop at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J., August 10-12.

Racers positioned for victory at Numidia Raceway

NUMIDIA, Pa.- In the final rounds of qualifying at Numidia Raceway, Federal-Mogul Dragster driver Cliff Bozelli and Federal-Mogul Funny Car pilot Paul Gill took the top qualifying honors.

Bozzelli of Absecon, N.J., made the quarter-mile run in 5.725 seconds at 245.96 mph to earn the Sealed Power low qualifier money. Brockton, Mass., resident Gill made a 5.891-second 242.32-mph pass to also earn a $1,000 check from Sealed Power.

Low qualifiers in other classes are Dave Northrop of Perkasie, Pa., in Comp; Richard Oakes of Woolwich Township, N.J., in Super Stock; and Cecil Frazier of Canton, Mass., in Stock.

Eliminations begin Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Gates at Numidia Raceway open at 8:00 a.m. Federal-Mogul Dragsters and Federal-Mogul Funny Cars run at noon. For more information call the track, (570) 799-0480.

It's thrills in the hills at Numidia Raceway

NUMIDIA, Pa.- Dave Northrop in Competition Eliminator and James Zane in Super Stock lead their respective fields after the first rounds of qualifying at Numidia Raceway.

Northrop, of Perkasie, Pa., made a 9.262-second pass in his '87 Camaro, .668 under index, to put him ahead of his competitors. Franklin Square, N.Y., resident Frank Aragona remained close behind in the second position with an elapsed time of 8.636 seconds, .664 under index.

The top qualifier in the Super Stock category was Bordentown, N.J., resident Zane. Zane drove his '99 S-10 to the head of the field with a run of 10.575 seconds, 1.175 under his index.

Leading the way in the Stock field is Cecil Frazier of Canton, Mass. Frazier and his '90 Camaro took the quarter mile with an elapsed time of 11.961 seconds at 1.189 under index.

Qualifying continues Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Gates at Numidia Raceway open at 8:00 a.m. Federal-Mogul Dragster and Funny Car run at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. For more information, call the track, (570) 799-0480.
