Richardson all but wraps up Stock title
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Edmond Richardson took a huge points lead in Stock Eliminator for the National Championship with his win at Montgomery Motorsports Park. Richardson took out Brandon Wood with a pass of 11.312 seconds at 106.83 mph to Wood's 12.167 at 107.48.
"The car was phenomenal this weekend. I didn't have to do a thing to it", voiced Richardson of this weekend. "Last weekend we had all kinds of problems in Indy. Speedy (Harvey Emmons III) has a mathematical chance of catching me but he'll have to win his last three races of the year. We're in real good shape for the Championship."
Number one qualifier Larry Pritchett beat Jeff Taylor to take home the win in Comp. Eliminator Pritchett crossed the line at 8.156, 161.08 to Taylor's 8.105, 145.77.
Local favorite Lamar Stevenson of Montgomery, Ala. made it to the final round of Super Street before falling to Allen Sharp. Both drivers ran to quick with Sharp having the lesser of two evils with a run of 10.894 at 125.78 mph to Stevenson's 10.888 at 123.94 mph. (Super Street has a set index of 10.900)
"I would have liked to win but this runner-up finish jumps me up in the points chase. I'll take a runner-up finish any day," said Stevenson.

Thacker takes home Mayor's Cup at Montgomery Motorsports Park
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Marty Thacker won on consecutive holeshots to take the Federal-Mogul Dragster Championship at the Mayor's Cup tonight at Montgomery Motorsports Park. Thacker took out Troy Buff in the semifinals with a pass of 5.829 seconds to Buff's quicker 5.796, then went on to defeat the number one qualifier Lee Callaway in the finals.
Callaway had the quicker elapsed time with a 5.781 at 238.22 mph, but it was Thacker's reaction time of .424 (.400 is perfect) that made the difference as Thacker covered the quarter mile in 5.830 seconds at 235.91 mph.
"This is great," exclaimed Thacker as he climbed from his car. "Everybody did there job this weekend. Hats off to my crew. The car was consistent all day with 5.80s and I did my job with the driving. This is great!"
Tate Branch made his own trip to the winner's circle with a win in the Federal-Mogul Funny Car category when he left Chuck Cheeseman at the starting line and clocked a 4.972 second run at 244.16 mph. Cheesman hurt the car at the starting line and coasted to the finish. The win moves Branch into the points lead ahead of former Funny Car National Champ Tony Bartone in the South Central Division.
"The car was a little soft these last two rounds," said Branch after the win. "We just wanted to run our race and that's what we did."
Eliminations continue for all other categories on Sunday at 11 a.m. Gates open at 9 a.m.

Callaway, Cheeseman on top at Montgomery
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Lee Callaway jumped to the top of the field of Federal-Mogul Dragster to lead qualifying in the Mayor's Cup at Montgomery Motorsports Park. Callaway covered the quarter-mile in 5.695 seconds at 242.91 mph for this, the fourth event in the NHRA Southeast Division Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series. Troy Buff, of Spring, Texas, follows Callaway in the number two position with a pass of 5.788, 242.84 mph
In the Federal-Mogul Funny Car class it was Chuck Cheeseman claiming the number one spot with a run of 5.830 at 247.86 mph. Cheeseman is followed by Tate Branch with a 5.889-second, 245.56-mph pass. Both Branch and fellow Funny Car driver Richard Shaver gave the crowd some excitement during second round of qualifying when their cars got out of the groove and brushed the retaining wall sending sparks shooting into the night. Neither driver was injured and are expected to return tomorrow for final qualifying prior to eliminations Saturday night
Local favorites Johnny Moore and Mike Crutchfield, both of Montgomery, are qualified fourth and tenth, respectively, in the Super Stock categories
Qualifying continues at Montgomery Motorsports Park Saturday at 10 a.m. Gates open at 8 a.m. Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car receive one final qualifying pass and then begin eliminations at 6 p.m. Also schedules for Saturday evening will be a Top Fuel dragster match race and Jet Funny Cars. Saturday's festivities will conclude with a fireworks show at 10:30 p.m.
