Winners finally crowned in Cecil County
RISING SUN, Md. - After an eight week rain delay, competitor returned to Cecil County to complete the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series event that began August 25th. Rich McPhillips claimed victory over Jeanie Booz in Federl-Mogul Dragster, while Paul Gill score a win over Frank Manzo in Federal-Mogul Funny Car.
The remaining sportsman classes also ran eliminations with Ken Keir winning Comp and Michael Barsky taking Super Stock. The other winners were Robert Pare in Stock, Jack Sepanek Jr. in Super Comp, Dan Northrop in Super Gas, and Jeff Fisher in Super Street.

Rain halts racing at Cecil County
RISING SUN, Md. - Rain ultimately stopped the action at the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series event at Cecil County Raceway Sunday. With the final rounds remaining in both the Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car, and several rounds in all other categories, NHRA officials took the decision to postpone the event until Saturday, Oct. 21.
When racing resumes in eight weeks, Blooming Glen, Pa.'s Jeanie Booz will square off against fellow Pennsylvania resident Rich McPhillips of Phoenixville for the Federal-Mogul Dragster title. Perennial Federal-Mogul Funny Car champion, Morganville, NJ's Frank Manzo will race against Brockton, Mass.' Paul Gill for the event title.
Before torrential rain put an end to the weekend's activities a pall was cast over the track when Competition Eliminator racer Ian Landies of Chardon, Ohio, died of injuries suffered in a first-round accident Sunday morning.

Lebor, Manzo finish qualifying on top
RISING SUN, MD.- The second day of qualifying in the August Extravaganza began at the sun-drenched Cecil County Dragway. As Mother Nature cooperated for the first time in recent memory, competitors from as far away as Miami, Florida tested the ¼ mile track hoping to qualify in the top position for their respective classes. The number one qualifying position in the Federal-Mogul Dragster Division went to Delray Beach, Fla., resident Tony Lebor. Lebor ran a track record 5.538 second e.t. at a speed of 250.88 mph narrowly beating out the second place qualifier Rich McPhillips of Phoenixville, Pa. Meanwhile, Federal-Mogul Funny Car pilot Frank Manzo of Morganville, N.J., showed why he is the man to beat by holding onto the top spot with a track record run of 5.690 seconds at 256.41 mph.
In Competition Eliminator, Frank Aragona of Franklin Square, N.Y., remained the No. 1 qualifier with a time of 8.364 (-0.736 under index) seconds. Second place went to Dave Northrop of Perkasie, Pa., with a time of 8.326 (-0.654 under index) seconds.
In Super Stock, Howard Barsky of Levittown, Pa., remained on the top spot with a 11.188 second run against a 12.45 index (-1.262 under). Joe Scott, from Sunbury, Pa., remained in the second position .052 seconds behind the number one qualifier.
Brooklyn, N.Y., resident Arthur Leong over-powered the field to secure the top spot in the Stock Eliminator category. Leong drove his FF/SA, '91 Dodge to the No. 1 qualifying position with a run of 14.965 seconds on a 16.25 index (-1.285 under).
Gates open at 8:00 a.m. and eliminations start at 9:00 a.m. Eliminations for Federal-Mogul Dragster and Federal-Mogul Funny Car will begin at 12:00 noon. The following are Saturday's qualifying results from the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series event at Cecil County Dragway:

Manzo and Lebor dominate at Cecil County Dragway
RISING SUN, MD.- The NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series made its sixth and final stop of the year at beautiful Cecil County Dragway. With Mother Nature providing fantastic weather conditions, the Northeast Division concludes its 2000 racing season with more than 500 racecars from eight racing categories competing for the $158,000 in cash and contingency awards.
After the first day of time trials at Cecil County Dragway's August Extravaganza event, Federal-Mogul Dragster pilot Tony Lebor of Delray Beach, Fla., took the number one spot and remained the one to beat with a track-record run of 5.538 seconds at 250.88 mph.
In the Federal-Mogul Funny Car field, Frank Manzo of Morganville, N.J., out-dueled all other challengers with an elapsed time of 5.690 seconds and 256.41 mph to set the pace for this weekends activities by claiming Friday's top position.
In Competition Eliminator, Frank Aragona of Franklin Square, N.Y., was the number one qualifier with a stellar run of 8.418 seconds. Aragona's run was .043 seconds quicker than his closest rival, Perkasie, Pa.'s, Dave Northrop leaving the rest of the field to fight for the remaining positions.
In Super Stock, Howard Barsky of Levittown, Pa., drove his '57 Chevrolet to the top qualifying position narrowly beating out Joe Scott of Sunbury, Pa., by .020 seconds. Barsky had a run of 11.236 seconds (-1.214 under index) compared to Scott's 10.556 (-1.194 under index)
Stock Eliminator driver Bud Rowe overcame a strong field to grab Friday's top position. Rowe of Bridgeton, N.C., drove his '85 Camaro to the No. 1 qualifying position with a run of 11.915 seconds, -1.235 under index. Q
Qualifying and time trials continue Saturday at Cecil County Dragway. Gates open at 8:00 a.m. and racing begins at 9:00 a.m.
