FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FEDERAL-MOGUL FUNNY CAR DRIVER CY CHESTERMAN DEFENDS HIS TITLE AT NEBRASKA MOTORPLEX
Scribner, Neb.- The 1999 NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series champion in Federal-Mogul Funny Car was once again Sioux City, Iowa's Cy Chesterman.

Chesterman has won the event now two years in a row with his Coca-Cola sponsored Federal-Mogul Funny.

"My crew and I knew that we were doing something right after we ended up in the top qualifying position" Chesterman explained. "It was just a matter of keeping the same set up with just a few minor adjustments, and the rest was up to the track."

The final round of this year's Federal-Mogul Funny Car competition at Nebraska Motorplex came down to Chesterman and the number two qualifier, Red Wing Minnesota's Sam Blue, who recently won his first national event at the Mopar Mile High Nationals in Denver with his Sturdiwheat Pancakes car.

While both drivers put in solid runs, Chesterman's time of 5.967 seconds was just too much for Blue as he ran a 6.106 second time. In addition to the fact that Blue had to race against a driver that was ranked number six in the country in 1998, the high altitude conditions also made it very difficult for any driver to make it into the five second.

Another big winner in the weekend's competition was Lawrence, Kansas driver Rob Wendland in his In-N-Out Federal-Mogul Dragster.

Wendland, who is racing his rookie year like a seasoned professional, had to take on one of the top drivers in the country, David Wells of LeMars, Iowa. Wells was ranked tenth in the national standings in 1998 and is gunning for the top honors in the NHRA West Central Division's championship race.

All Wendland, who ran a 5.834 second time, could ask after he won against Wells, who ran a 5.881 second time was, "Where am I in the national points now?" Wendland is currently ranked in the ninth position, while his teammate and fellow In-N-Out Federal-Mogul Dragster driver, Melanie Troxel from Denver, sits in the fifth position in the current points standings.

"I think it would be very cool if both of us [Troxel and Wendland] could make it into the top five [national points standings] by the end of the season" Wendland said.

After this weekend's event Wendland will move up in the national points standings leaving behind his current ninth place position.

The following are final results from the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series event at Nebraska Motorplex, the fifth of six races in the NHRA West Central Division listing driver, city, state, make of car, elapsed time in seconds and miles per hour:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ROOKIE SENSATION ROB WENDLAND IS AT THE TOP OF HIS FIELD
Scribner, Neb. - The newest sensation to hit Federal-Mogul Dragster could very well be the In-N-Out Burger race teams of Jerry Darien and Ken Meadows. The team as a collective has two excellent drivers who are making their mark on the 1999 NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing series.

The first driver, Rob Wendlend,of Lawrence, Kan. is a rookie who has recently taken the seat of the blown alcohol dragster that once was driven by the second, Federal-Mogul Dragster teammate Melanie Troxel, of Denver, Colo. The blown alcohol dragster is one of two In-N-Out dragsters that are currently competing in the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series. The second of the cars is Troxel's A/Fuel, or injected-nitro dragster that she has run to a fifth place position in the NHRA Federal-Mogul points standings, and first place in the NHRA Northwest Division standings.

"Rob's rookie season has been amazing," said Mike Troxel, who is Melanie's father, and Wendland's crew chief. "He is currently ranked ninth in the national points standings with a few national event wins already under his belt."

This weekend's NHRA Federal-Mogul event, taking place at Nebraska Motorplex is another track at which Wendland is showing his skill. After three sessions of qualifying Wendland is number one on the qualifying ladder and takes the honor of Wintson Top Qualifier for the Federal-Mogul Dragster category. If Wendland's winning continues he may join his teammate, Melanie Troxel, in the top part of the points ladder, an enviable place for any driver, but especially when both those drivers, who share two spots in the top five, are teammates.

Other Winston Top Qualifiers of the weekend included Sioux City, Iowa's Cy Chesterman in Federal-Mogul Funny Car, Tonkawa, Oklahoma's John Linton in Comp Eliminator, Shorter, Alabama's Bobby Dennis in Super Stock, and local racer, Fremont, Nebraska's Stewart Triggs in Stock Eliminator.

Eliminations will begin at 8 a.m. Sunday morning with Federal-Mogul Dragster and Funny Car making their first elimination run at 1 p.m.

Friday Qualifying:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SIOUX CITY IOWA'S CY CHESTERMAN TOPS THE LADDER IN FEDERAL-MOGUL FUNNY CAR QUALIFYING
Scribner, Neb.- Cy Chesterman topped the Federal-Mogul Funny Car qualifying list after Friday's session in the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series event at Nebraska Motorplex.

Chesterman will be racing to defend his title as winner of the 1998 NHRA Federal-Mogul event in Scribner, Neb. Defending that title will be no easy task either. He will have to compete against competitive drivers like Vern Moats, of Des Moines, Iowa who is the defending 1998 Federal-Mogul Funny Car champion in the NHRA West Central Division, and Sam Blue, of Red Wing, Minn. who recently won his first national event at the Mopar Mile High Nationals in Denver.

Shelly Howard, of Tulsa, Okla. is the current leader in the Federal-Mogul Dragster category after Friday's qualifying session. She is one of three out of division racers, from the NHRA South Central Division to be exact, who are competing for additional points for a championship title. Howard is currently ranked third in the points standings for the NHRA South Central Division championship and will run this weekend's event for points that will put her closer to first place in the standings. Cypress, Texas' Darrell Russell currently holds first place, but his lead could soon fall to another driver after this weekend's race.

That driver, in Federal-Mogul Dragster, is Troy Buffs, of Spring, Texas. Buff, who is also trying for a championship title, is looking for some out of division wins to achieve that goal. He is currently ranked third in the Federal-Mogul Dragster national points standings, just 234 points out of first place, and would like to gather as many division points as possible before competing at any more national events.

"I need to get more division wins" explained Buff. "We want to go for the national championship, and going to out of division races for points is one way of achieving that goal."

The action continues tomorrow with qualifying and time trials beginning at 8:00 a.m. with Federal-Mogul Funny Car and Dragster qualifying at 1 and 3 p.m.
