FEDERAL-MOGUL DRAGSTER DRIVER ROB WENDLAND ADDS ANOTHER WIN TO HIS ROOKIE SEASON
Earlville, Iowa- The In-N-Out Burger team of Jerry Darien, Ken Meadows, and the Troxels, Mike and Barb have experienced a year of racing in the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series that has been nothing less than sensational. The team owners of the blown alcohol Federal-Mogul Dragster of Rob Wendland, from Lawrence, Kan., and the injected-nitro Federal-Mogul Dragster of Melanie Troxel, from Littleton, Colo., have been able to put together a winning season that will not soon be forgotten.

Wendland, who is in his rookie season as a driver in dragster, has positioned himself to finish the 1999 season in the top ten national points standings, an accomplishment seasoned veterans look forward to after their years of experience. But with a little luck, and a very positive attitude the Mike and Barb Troxel owned In-N-Out dragster has taken Wendland to four wins this season, two at national events, and two at divisional events including this weekend's race at Tri-State Raceway.

"I try to not look at it as work, I actually have a lot of fun racing in this dragster," Wendland said. "Every time I do a burn out I wave at the starter, and once I've finished the burnout I try and talk to the NHRA West Central Division Director, Rob Park for a few seconds." "I guess I haven't really started thinking too much about where I am in the points nationally because I'm having so much fun, and that has brought success to our team with all the hard work everyone has put in."

Wendland will be running the rest of season toward a top five finish and attributes that thinking to his team; "I'm proud to be a part of such a great team," Wendland said. "I realize that between Melanie and myself we have had a great year, and we're looking forward to a lot more." Melanie Troxel is the second half of the In-N-Out team and has made a name for herself as Wendland has, between the two there is a lot to look for out of these two young drivers for many years to come.

The following are final results from the NHRA Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series event at Tri-State Raceway, the last of six races in the NHRA West Central Division listing driver, city, state, make of car, elapsed time in seconds and miles per hour:

Friday Qualifying:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DES MOINES, IOWA'S VERN MOATS CONTINUES TO DOMINATE FEDERAL-MOGUL FUNNY CAR
Earlville, Iowa- After one qualifying session Friday at the new Tri-State Raceway track in Earlville, Iowa, the defending Federal-Mogul Funny Car champion in the NHRA West Central Division, Vern Moats, is once again at the top of the ladder in qualifying.

After a record 14 NHRA division championship titles Moats has already secured his 15th title for the 1999 season, and is now running for a better ranking in the national standings. Moats and all of the other Federal-Mogul Funny Car and Dragster drivers have never raced their cars at the new track, but after the first day's qualifying it seems very likely that several track records will be set over the course of the weekend by the NHRA racers. Both Moats and Rob Wendland, of Lawrence, Kan, readily beat the old track speed record of 223 mph. Wendland now holds the track speed record with a 252.03 mph run he made in his first pass. Moats went down with a 243.50 mph run, but both drivers are confident that with the excellent track conditions they will go quicker and faster Saturday and Sunday.

This is the first NHRA event that the track has ever hosted, after its opening in June of 1998, and the owners as well as the fans seem to be happy to have the new event at their track. "Everything has turned out better than we expected," explained track owner Reid Kuhlman. "We didn't have as many fans out today as I would have like but we realize that with Friday being a work day, some people just can't make it. But they will be treated to two days of great racing on Saturday and Sunday, so I hope they don't miss out on this great NHRA Federal-Mogul event."

Qualifying continues Saturday at 8 a.m. with Federal-Mogul Dragsters and Funny Cars running their 250 mph five second cars at noon and 4 p.m.
