MANZO RULES DELMAR
DELMAR, Del. - Reigning NHRA Federal-Mogul Funny Car national champion Frank Manzo doesn't lose often at U.S. 13 Dragway in Delmar, Del., and Sunday didn't offer any changes to the form book. Facing Melinda Green-King in the final round Manzo drove his Kendall-sponsored Dodge Avenger to the winner's circle with a 5.986-second run his third victory in as many years at the popular track.
The win came eight days after the event began. One week earlier rain forced track and NHRA officials to cancel the race after the completion of qualifying; Manzo led the qualifying sheets with a 5.919-second lap, then used a 6.129-second run to hold off semifinal opponent Craig English.
Michael Bartone claimed Federal-Mogul Dragster honors, defeating Rich McPhillips in the final round. McPhillips, the No. 8 qualifier, beat pole-sitter Jeanie Booz in round one, but was no match for Bartone, who recorded a winning 5.846-second run.

Saturday Qualifying:FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FIRST ROUND QUALIFYING PROVES TOO MUCH FOR BOZZELLI
DELMAR, Del. - Spectators at US 13 Dragway held their collective breath today during the first round of Federal-Mogul Dragster qualifying. In the second pair of cars down the track, Cliff Bozzelli of Absecon, N.J., rolled his car at about the 1,000 foot mark on the track. Bozzelli let himself out of the car immediately when it stopped moving and track officials and the safety crew were on the scene. Bozzelli was unhurt.
Bozzelli's tires never seemed to hook up with the track and appeared to bounce from side to side. As he gained momentum the car eventually rolled.
Mardella Springs' Gary Parks was in the opposite lane and was unaffected by Bozzelli's run.
Jeanie Booz, Blooming Glen, Pa., finished in the top spot in the first round and elected not to make the second qualifying pass when no one was able to best her 5.77 second, 243.44 mph run.
In the final round of qualifying for Federal-Mogul Funny Car, Frank Manzo, Morganville, N.J., took the top spot away from Norfolk, Va.'s, Melinda Green-King. Manzo ran 5.919 seconds at 239.93 mph to Green-King's' 6.116 second, 226.47 mph run.
