Sunday Results:TOP QUALIFIERS GRAB BIG WINS ROCKY MOUNTAIN RACEWAYS, SALT LAKE CITY, UT -- Rick Santos and John Weaver both took home big wins and stretched their Pacific Division points lead in the Federal-Mogul Dragster and Funny Car categories respectively. Santos took out number two qualifier Rick Henkelman with a 5.714 second pass at 245.43 mph to Henkelmans 5.811 second, 221.18 mph. Santos and Henkelman remain number one and two in the NHRA Pacific Division at the half way point of the season. Im just glad we got this thing in exclaimed Santos as weather threatened all day, bringing thunder and rain just 20 minutes after the final pair of cars raced down the quarter mile. Weaver overcame a starting line advantage from Dennis Taylor to capture the Federal-Mogul Funny Car title with a 6.026 seconds at 232.91 mph. Everybody did their job, the car ran great all weekend said Weaver as he rolled his car into the Winners Circle. Weavers Dream Weaver Funny Car ran a best of 5.895 seconds in the semis to take out number two in the points Johnny Gray. The Utah Independent Living Center and the Salt Lake Street Wolves Wheelchair Basketball team were special guests of the Naber Racing Team this weekend. Robert Nabor who drives the Super Gas entry was paralyzed while competing in a Supercross Motorcross event in Seattle four years ago. After regaining his mobility and use of his entire body, he and long time drag racer and father Darrell Naber decided to see what Robert could do with four wheels. He loves the competition, however an even bigger reason for racing is to give encouragement to others that have paralysis. Nabor Racing will compete in the Pacific Division and plan to attend the races in Sonoma, Sacramento and Phoenix.
