As if Las Vegas weren’t loud and ostentatious enough in its own right, the city hosts the fire and fury of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series twice each year, the spring event and the crucial penultimate stop on the schedule in the fall. Contested at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, a crown jewel befitting this glitzy city, the event has become a pivotal stop on the tour. Race teams often light up the scoreboard with performances one wouldn’t normally see at 2,100 feet of altitude. The event will also include the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series.
2010 recap: The Las Vegas oddsmakers certainly got it right when favored Larry Dixon, John Force, and Mike Edwards did the expected in grabbing wins. Each of the victors — who also all opened their seasons with wins in Pomona — left Las Vegas with the points lead. Dixon was a 5/2 favorite in Top Fuel, Force was 2/1 in Funny Car, and reigning Pro Stock world champ Edwards was rated even, and none disappointed despite another challenging day in which race teams had to endure high air and track temperatures.
How to Get There: From the Las Vegas Strip and downtown, follow Interstate 15 north to Speedway Boulevard (Exit 54). Follow signs to the main parking area.
