Texas Motorplex is one of three all-concrete dragstrips on the schedule (the first of its kind when it opened), which provides optimum traction and allows crew chiefs the opportunity to achieve national record performances. The event, which is the third chance for Countdown teams to earn points, takes place just a week after the Charlotte event, making for a long tow and a quick turnaround for the championship-hungry teams.
2011 recap: Bob Vandergriff Jr., appearing in his 14th final round, finally won his first NHRA Top Fuel event to highlight eliminations at the second of six races in the NHRA Full Throttle Countdown playoffs. Joining Vandergriff in victory were Cruz Pedregon (Funny Car), Jason Line (Pro Stock), and Michael Phillips (Pro Stock Motorcycle), all of whom overcame 100-degree temperatures Sunday to reach the winner’s circle.
