Contested in the shadow of the famed St. Louis arch at multipurpose Gateway Int’l Raceway, 2007’s event was the first to be held in cooler May climes after a change in the schedule from its traditional summer date. Since its inception, the event has become known for surprise winners. The Madison quarter-mile hosts the fourth event of the season for riders in the Pro Stock Motorcycle class.
2009 recap: Funny Car driver Del Worsham scored his first victory for the new Al-Anabi team and was joined in the winner’s circle by Antron Brown (Top Fuel), Jeg Coughlin Jr. (Pro Stock), and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle), all of whom had scored earlier 2009 victories. Brown’s race with Brandon Bernstein was a rematch of their Phoenix final, and the result was the same when Brown collected the win and the points lead. Worsham defeated points leader Ron Capps on a holeshot in the Funny Car final, and points leader Coughlin fended off No. 2 driver Jason Line in the Pro Stock final. The Pro Stock Motorcycle final pitted the series’ two most recent winners, Atlanta champ Krawiec and Houston titlist Craig Treble.
How to Get There: Five minutes from downtown St. Louis, the track is on Interstate 55/70 at Exit 4. From St. Louis, take I-70 south to I-55/70 and travel east to Exit 4.
