Sprawling multipurpose Heartland Park Topeka has been a Midwest favorite since it opened in 1989, but its dragstrip has gained the majority of headlines. The event, originally in the fall, has featured numerous record performances, the most significant of which was the shattering of the quarter-mile four-second and 300-mph barriers in Funny Car in 1993. The event moved to its current spot on the schedule in 2001.
2013 Recap: Johnny Gray took the Funny Car points lead by completing back-to-back victories for the first time in his car and defeating a resurgent Robert Hight in the final. Shawn Langdon closed the deal in Top Fuel with a win over Tony Schumacher, who was runner-up during all three of Langdon’s wins. Jeg Coughlin Jr. scored his first Pro Stock win of the season along with his 500th career round-win by defeating Dodge teammate Allen Johnson in the final.
