2:35 PM Shields banged the blower on the burnout and coasted to the first
gate, so Federlin got a free pass to round two. He made a nice, clean run,
virtually duplicating his qualifying numbers.

(L) Kim Parker (Mercedes Shoppe B/AD) 0.548 5.745 210.31
Faria is driving the Darien-Meadows car that has seen some pretty well known
drivers in past years, now running an A-Fuel combination. Parker's car was very
loose on the top end, over against the centerline, and her chutes knocked over the
finish line reflector. By then Faria was long gone, a clean, straight run, the
margin of victory = 0.192 seconds (approximately 59 feet).

Talk about your long odds - Grocock made two runs in qualifying, both with
6.31 ETs and 180-plus speeds, while Santos was solidly in the 5.40s and mid-250s.
The race was over quickly, Grocock late and then shutting off, coasting through,
while Santos stepped up a bit, running his best ET of the weekend. Santos will
have lane choice over Faria in the second round.

Classic FMD matchup here, Niver with an A-Fuel combination and Carlson a
died-in-the-wool advocate of the blown alcohol combination. Carlson gave this one
up on the redlight, running strongly down the middle of the groove while Niver was
struggling with at least two dead cylinders.

Two blown cars faced off here. Hansen pulled the trigger first, but his car
spun the tires and fishtailed on the launch while Hentges leaped off the starting
line and stormed right down the groove for an easy win and lane choice against
Niver in round two.

Dion had all kinds of problems in qualifying with his blower car, while
Henkelman was consistently quick on all three runs in his fueler. Henkelman ran
his worst run of the weekend, through tire shake and very loose handling, to win
easily over Dion's best run of the weekend. A game effort, but the #1 qualifier
advances with lane choice over Federlin in round two.

The winner here gets a bye into the final round. Henkelman dropped a cylinder
before half track Federlin ran a good pass for the win.

In a match up between an an injected nitro motor and a blown alcohol motor,
Hentges pulls away at the top end.
A good side by side pass.

Margin of victory = 0.124 seconds (approximately 45 feet). A great side by
