Results for Elimination 2
DINWIDDIE, Va. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in
Pro Stock at the 5th annual Pennzoil Nationals:
 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Richie Stevens (Pont Firebird) 0.435 6.926 198.03
 (L) Mike Edwards (Chevy Camaro) 0.435 6.958 198.79
11:30 AM and the cool, sunny weather is yet another variable that the crew chiefs will have to deal with today. These crews have had a full day to tweak these cars after round, that could be a good thing or that could be a bad thing. Here, identical starts lead to both cars getting out of shape, Edwards loose first then Stevens weaving in third gear. It was a close one, the margin of victory = 0.032 seconds, about 9 feet.
 (W) Allen Johnson (Dodge Avenger) 0.460 7.537 130.80
 (L) George Marnell (Pont Firebird) 0.000(R) (Broke)
A strange one here, neither driver willing to stage then when they finally went in Marnell's Firebird crept forward when he brought the revs up, enough that he was thru the stage beams when the tree was activated. So Johnson gets a lucky break into the next round, but almost surely will lose lane choice.
 (W) John Nobile (Olds Cutlass) 0.489 6.933 198.47
 (L) Mike Thomas (Pont Firebird) 0.538 6.895 199.43
Nobile cards a holeshot win here, Thomas significantly late off the line and giving up almost five hundredths to Nobile. The margin was 0.011 seconds, approximately 3 feet.
 (W) Kurt Johnson (Chevy Camaro) 0.501 7.089 198.73
 (L) Mark Pawuk (Pont Firebird) 0.292(R) 6.923 198.88
Pawuk took a chance and he likely didn't need to, the ACDelco car shaking the tires almost exactly like his dad yesterday. Remarkably, that will still earn KJ lane choice, as he races the Dodge next time.

Results for Elimination 3
DINWIDDIE, Va. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 3 eliminations in
Pro Stock at the 5th annual Pennzoil Nationals:
 W/L Driver RT ET Speed

 (W) Allen Johnson (Dodge Avenger) 0.436 6.969 198.12
 (L) Kurt Johnson (Chevy Camaro) 0.456 11.025 81.27
01:05 P, and the skies are fully overcast, very much like this time yesterday. And the ACDelco Camaro shakes and gets out of the groove, while the Amoco Dodge goes right down the left lane, and straight into his first-ever final round.
 (W) Richie Stevens (Pont Firebird) 0.443 6.917 198.61
 (L) John Nobile (Olds Cutlass) 0.448 6.972 198.12
So the young lions take over the show, moving into the Pro Stock final. And Stevens has lane choice, after defeating Nobile by 0.060 seconds here.

 (L) Richie Stevens (Pont Firebird) 0.452 6.960 198.20
02:51 PM... Coming into this round, Stevens has the performance advantage, but Roy Johnson is the Crew Chief of the Race and they don't give that award lightly. Johnson told us that his Avenger had problems with the bump in the left lane next round, and if he can get over the bump this time he thinks he has a shot at a win here. Well, it looks like he covered the bump about like he covered Stevens off the line, his 0.019 second starting line advantage enough to cover the quicker ET from Stevens. The margin at the finish was 0.009 seconds, or almost 3 feet. So on a weekend when the factory Mopars stayed home, the Little Dodge That Could took home all the marbles, and made the Amoco folks and the Johnson family very, very happy.
