Jeter speeds to top spot after first two sessions

Super Stock low qualifier Randall Klein Pro Stock Truck national speed record holder Brad Jeter wasted no time in impressing his new sponsor, Karl Chevrolet, as he placed his black Chevy S-10 at the head of the Pro Stock Truck field with a pair of track records at the O'Reilly Nationals presented by Pennzoil at Houston Raceway Park. Jeter ran 7.595 at 177.74 on Thursday's first pass to set both ends of the facility's standards, then followed a session later with a faster-still 177.91 mph. Randy Daniels, who scored the first national event victory of his career when he defeated Jeter in the final round of the AutoZone Winternationals, sits second with his Chevy S-10 at 7.614, 176.33, followed by defending Winston champ Larry Kopp at 7.623, 176.40. Pro Stock Trucks results Three of Division 4's top drivers pace the Comp eliminator field after Thursday's action, with John Linton atop the pack with his B/ED at (-.583) 7.557. A pair of B/EDs follow, Dennis Smiley at 7.062 and Joey Tanksley at 7.079, .558 and .541 under the index, respectively. Comp results Randall Klein, one of Division 4's hottest pilots and the low qualifier at the recent Division 4 Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series event in Memphis, leads the Super Stock pack in Houston with his SS/NA Chevy wagon with an 11.186, 1.264 seconds under his 12.45 index. Veteran Bob Dennis is second with his GT/MA machine at (-1.227) 10.823. Super Stock results A pair of Division 4 veterans and a newcomer hold down the top spots in Stock. Southcentral fixture Ronnie Cardwell has his K/SA entry in the No. 1 spot a 1.172 seconds under with a pass of 11.778, followed by the FT/SA truck of Frank Teuton Jr. at (-1.063) 12.687 and former Division champ Mike Cotten, (-1.061) 11.389.
