Dave Grubnic's first win was as shocking as his first seven final rounds had been disappointing. His final-round opponent, Larry Dixon, had qualified No. 3 with a 4.52 and a track-record event top speed of 331.61 mph. Meanwhile, Grubnic was winning ugly, relying on luck. (page 14)
