O'REILLY NHRA SPRING NATIONALS PRO RESULTS

FUNNY CAR by Todd Veney
"Robert can do this. He's the real deal. I just hope we gave him a good hot rod." – Rookie Robert Hight's crew chief, Jimmy Prock, just before the final round (page 16)

PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE by Kevin McKenna
There was a time when qualifying in the bottom half of the Pro Stock Motorcycle field was a surefire way to beat traffic leaving the track, but those days are long gone. In Houston, four of the top five qualifiers didn't make it out of the first round, and the final featured No. 15 qualifier Karen Stoffer and 12th-seeded Kurt Matte, whose prior record included just one round-win in 22 career starts. PLUS:

  • Interview: Frank Pedregon – The eldest of the three Funny Car-racing Pedregons lays it on the table like you've never heard before, from his goals as a new team owner to his strained relationship with his brothers, Tony and Cruz. By Steve Waldron. (page 32)
  • Tech: A Racer's Tools for Gathering Information – Though the average racer may lack the resources of, say, a competitive Pro Stock team, it doesn't mean you can't use some of the technology or the thought process. Tech guru Evan J. Smith shows you how. (page 54)
  • Competition: Sport Compact results from Moroso – Sport Compact veterans Ed Bergenholtz and Shawn Hillier scored their first career NHRA Sport Compact national event victories, in Pro FWD and Honda Tuning All Motor, respectively, during record-setting action at the third annual BFGoodrich Tires NHRA Sport Compact Nationals. By Phil Burgess. (page 44)
