CARQUEST AUTO PARTS NHRA NATIONALS PRO RESULTS

TOP FUEL by Duke Ritenhouse
Doug Herbert freely admits that he is a poor loser and a person to be avoided on Monday if Sunday's Top Fuel racing didn't go his way. On the other hand, there's probably not a more enthusiastic winner currently running full time on the NHRA tour, and when Herbert wins four rounds on Sunday, as he did at the CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals, he becomes a booming-voiced, 220-pound, 6-foot-4-inch force of nature administering crushing handshakes, hearty backslaps, and feet-off-the-floor bear hugs to anyone, friend or stranger, within striking distance. (page 16)

FUNNY CAR by Steve Waldron
"When you've got a final where you know you're outperformed, you've just got to go down the track, make your run, and run what you can. You just don't want to make a mistake. You're not going to outrun him, especially not this weekend. He can make some mistakes and you'll get lucky. [In the final], something went wrong with his car, and it was our lucky day." – Funny Car winner Del Worsham after John Force smoked the tires aginst him in the final (page 14)
