MOPAR PARTS MILE-HIGH NATIONALS PRO COVERAGE
By John Jodauga, Brad Littlefield, and Kelly Wade

NHRA’s interim measure of shortening the track distance to 1,000 feet in the nitro classes left some to wonder if the excitement would still be there. Racers answered on the track with quality, side-by-side racing in remarkably good qualifying sessions. Even the most skeptical were gripped to the scoreboards during the Friday night qualifying session, when Antron Brown recorded the first three-second pass and Hillary Will was the first to exceed 300 mph. (page 14)

PLUS:

  • On the Run with Jim Dunn — “Two of the races where we did not qualify were Gainesville and Chicago, where we totaled the car both times. That’s because we were aggressive with the clutch, but it’s also why when we do make a full pass, we’re usually in the top five at half-track and the top three at 1,000 feet.” (page 34)
  • Division 1 Lucas Oil Series Coverage — Top Alcohol Funny Car kingpin Frank Manzo returned to his usual winning form, John Finke got past Art Gallant in a meeting of the top Northeast Division Top Alcohol Dragster drivers, and Al Ackerman continued his summer hot streak in Comp at Lebanon Valley Dragway. By Duke Ritenhouse. (page 4)
  • The Racer’s Mind with Bruce Deveau — Which driver are you? The one who says, “I lost because I never have any luck”? Or how about “I lost because that idiot wouldn’t stage”? Learn what type of driver you are and what it says about you. (page 130)
