Pro Stock Motorcycle champ Smith, Nitro Fish team up for 2008

After a very stressful and eventful month, 2007 NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle world champ Matt Smith has finally landed a sponsor. Smith had been on pins and needles for the last few weeks, wondering if he would be able to defend his title in 2008, and now, with the help of Kenny Korestsky's company, Nitro Fish, Smith can live his dream.

“I am so relieved,” Smith said. “You have no idea how excited I am to be back racing. At this point last week, all I was going to race were the first few races, and now I am fully backed and can go out there and try and win this thing again. Kenny is amazing. Just when I was about to give up, he came to my rescue. This should be a very interesting year, and hopefully, we can put on another great show for all the NHRA fans.”

Koretsky called Smith last week and began negotiating figures. One thing led to another, and the two are paired for Smith's quest for a second NHRA world championship.

“How could I pass it up?” Koretsky commented. “I mean, it is by far the best bang for your buck out here. Matt is the champ. He is a very humble and hardworking young man, and I wanted to give him the opportunity to go out there and win again. I am very excited to be part of such an incredible team. The Smiths are great people. They have a family operation over there, and family is one thing that is very close to my heart.”

Smith will debut the Nitro Fish machine March 13-16 at the Pro Stock Motorcycle season opener in Gainesville, Fla. He will carry the number 1 on the side of his Nitro Fish Buell for the first time and has all hopes of keeping it there for a while.
