Happy New Year!Saturday, January 03, 2009

Happy New Year from beautiful Park City Mountain Resort! Toni and I have been here skiing since Monday and what an awesome week it has been. Park City had just gotten about two feet of snow a few days before our arrival so we have had plenty of famous Utah powder all week long. To make matters even better, Mother Nature dumped another 7 or 8 inches on the mountain last night so we are looking forward to more fresh powder on our last day of skiing.

The weather has been unbelievable, especially for this time of the year. The temps have been in the 30s most of the week with sunny skies and no winds...of course that is until today. I think the high today will be about 17 degrees with 25-mph winds. Hopefully the winds will stay under control so that the ski patrol won't have to close the lifts and shuttle us out on snowmobiles like last year!

It really has been a rather quiet vacation for us, unlike most of our ski vacations. With just the two of us, we have spent all day on the slopes and then spent most of our evenings just chillin' in our condo. What better way to spend a vacation than exercising six hours a day and getting a good night's sleep relax. I do miss the kids and especially little Ryan. Jamie and Cynthy are on their way home from visiting Cynthy's family in New Hampshire and I have to admit, I can't wait to get home and see him. I can't imagine how much he has grown since I saw him last week. Melissa took a couple of days to visit Jon in Clemson where she, Jon and Alli celebrated the New Year and then watched Clemson play in the Gator Bowl on New Year's Day. It was a great game; unfortunately, Nebraska prevailed in a very close and exciting competition. Melissa will pick us up Sunday night at the airport and then it is back to work and full speed ahead getting ready for the upcoming season. every night. Talk about getting a jump-start on our New Year's resolution to lead a healthier lifestyle!

The lifts have just opened so it is time to get myself ready for my last day on the slopes. As I look out of my window, I see the sun shining brightly on the fresh powder but I think I will add an extra layer of clothing anyway just to battle the winds on the summit and the cold temperatures predicted for today.

Again, Happy New Years to everyone. We hope that 2009 will be a year blessed with good health and happiness for all. I'll be checking in next week with an update on the racing program from the shop. Gotta go!
