Posted by: Tommy Johnson Jr. and Melanie Troxel
First off I want to thank everyone for bearing with me while I took a vacation from the blog. Needless to say our season hasn’t been going all that well and I haven’t really felt like writing a blog and telling you all the bad times we have been encountering. Living them firsthand has been bad enough without having to relive them again and again. I’ve tried to let the past be the past and look forward to the future.

I’ll give you a quick rundown of the past few weeks with them team. We’ve had just about everything bad that can go wrong happen to us. Once we get one problem solved another one pops its ugly head up. I think we are getting closer to running well, now we just need a break or some good fortune to go our way. As I write we are testing out at ORP. It hasn’t been a lack of effort or work on the guys part. Matter of fact I feel for them because they have probably worked harder than any other team out there and have the least to show for their efforts so far. Hopefully we can change that soon.

I was really happy for Melanie and her team last Sunday. They, too, like many teams this year have went through some tough times and it was great to see them turn things around in Bristol. When we didn’t make the show I was rooting for her to do well on Sunday. After she had done two burnouts and not even run first round yet, I made a comment that I had a feeling she was going to win and I would be hanging around all day watching the long drawn out rain delays. After the day was finally over it was worth the wait. I got to spend some good quality time with my nephew Gage last weekend explaining a lot of things about drag racing. He is three and very inquisitive about why we do this or that. It is amazing how kids look at things and makes you question some times why we do some of the things we do. His big question on Sunday was who keeps telling Aunt Melanie to shut her car off after the burnout. He also thinks mixing the fuel and packing the parachutes is pretty neat.

The Thursday before Bristol was a lot of fun. Roger Burgess from Pro Care RX flew Melanie and I down to the Medal of Honor dinner in Atlanta Thursday night. It was a great event and was an honor to be in the company of real American heroes. I talked to Brian Williams from NBC news who was the emcee for the dinner afterwards because I knew he was a race fan. We talked a little drag racing and he said he watches us on TV. Hopefully we can get him to come out to Englishtown when we are close to NY.

It has been a busy week so far in our household. We didn’t get home from Bristol until Monday night and Mel has been busy with a lot of interviews and such. With the Indy 500 in town this week there is a lot of events going on. Melanie played in a golf tournament at the Brickyard on Tuesday morning while I spent some time at our shop after visiting the chiropractor for a couple of hours that morning. (We shook really hard on Friday night and got my neck out of whack) I played in a golf tournament yesterday at the Brickyard while Mel stayed home and got some things done along with doing more interviews. We watched the American Idol results last night and I was glad to see David Cook win. Yes, I’ll admit it, I am a avid watcher of American Idol.

Today I’m out testing so I was unable to attend a function for Mac Tools but Melanie is filling in for me. Peanut our little boy Yorkie is at the Vet today getting a tooth pulled so hopefully he will be doing ok tonight. He’s a momma’s boy so I’m sure he will be getting pampered by Mel tonight. Tomorrow we are going to Carb Day at Indy and hang out there a while. We went last year and had a lot of fun so we are going again. I have some friends coming in this weekend to go to the race so we’ll hang out with them some. I haven’t decided on whether or not I will attend the sprint car race at ORP on Saturday night or whether or not we will go to the 500. I’m not sure I want to fight the big crowd Sunday. I can sit home and see everything on TV. I guess that will be a last-minute decision.

Thanks for being patient and I’ll hopefully have some good things for the blog soon.
