Return to RichmondFriday, October 10, 2008

We’re back to racing and I happy that this weekend we’re back at Richmond. This is the track where I earned my first-ever drag racing win. It was a divisional race in my Alcohol Funny Car in the inaugural race in 2006, and then our team was able to back that up again in 2007. So, needless to say, Virginia Motorsports Park is a track that holds a special place in my career and in my heart. I’m really excited to be here now in the nitro ranks, and hope that maybe a little bit of our good fortune from the past is here with us this weekend.

We just had a week off from racing, and me and my entire team are re-energized for the rest of the season. We’ve got three races left, and we’ve got some big goals for those last three races. This weekend our focus is improving our Friday night performance. We’ve been just missing qualifying on Friday, ending up in as the 13th driver more than a couple of times. I’ve got so much confidence and pride in my team, that I know that we’ll be able to put down some great time in today’s qualifying runs.

During my week off last week, I was working on my driver blog deal for Ford Racing. We’re still doing the online driver campaign for their online marketing of their 2009 production vehicles, and last week I had drive a Lincoln MKS. Yep, I know, tough life when you’re given a brand-new production vehicle to drive each week and then write about it for their website. And man, that Lincoln is a really nice car. As I put in my blog for that, luxurious is one way that I can use to describe that car.

One thing on the race side that I wanted to talk about this week is the fact that I can’t believe that there are only three races left in my rookie season. The season has really been somewhat of a blur to me. To think that even now, our team still isn’t even a year old, is still amazing because of how much work we have done in the past 11 months. I was talking to some Motorcraft and Quick Lane people last week and to put together our racing team and the business side of our program, and still not be at the one-year mark is pretty remarkable for us.

Well I’m headed to the driver’s meeting, and then it’s time to warm up the car and head out on the track.
