Desert-scapingFriday, May 02, 2008
I am sitting in the race transporter watching the weather channel and the raindrops here in St. Louis. I have been traveling with the team since the Atlanta race. Just looked up and saw severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in this area for today. All the teams have their pits secured and tied down and for the most part it looks to be pretty quiet and desolate outside. The few fans that are walking around are seeking out drivers that are out and about.

We had similar forecasts for the Atlanta race and we were able to squeeze all four qualifying sessions in, so you never know.

We have been staying in contact with our family back home and it seems as if the ground has been moving around quite a bit the last couple of days. Northern Nevada and California have been experiencing earthquakes. Speaking with our family they have not felt them. They have, however felt the other ground moving; our landscaping. While we are out racing, our family is monitoring the progress on our home “curb appeal.” We are having some decorative “desert-scaping” performed. We had a professional designer come in and give me some ideas last year on our property and what we could do. I really wanted a low maintenance, low water usage, yet appealing look. For someone like me, who has very little artistic abilities, it was amazing watching him design the perfect look for our home by simply walking around and placing chalk on the ground. After about 20 minutes, he provided the perfect plan for us. It captured all the requirements that I had asked for. We are now starting to bring in the soil and carve out some of the design elements. It’s hard to see the plan because they are just starting, but here are a few pictures.

The shop is still being worked on also. We really only work on it when we are home, but recently we’ve been bracket racing when we are home. Gary’s been preparing his car to race Super Gas this year, so we have been out racing in place of working on the shop (playing is more fun). His racing is going well. We have made a few trips to Top Gun Raceway and Gary won the Quick 16 class. He was very consistent on both the tree and the ET. That’s why he is my mentor! I could have used him in Atlanta when I was dead late on the tree. Well, it appears to have stopped raining and I believe they may be drying the track.

Bye for now.
