I know it’s been a few weeks since I have written in, but what an amazing two weeks, huh? Heck, what an amazing month. It all hit me when we were driving home from
Reading on Sunday night and I saw that I had three Wallys in the motorhome. I then realized that since I had been on the road (the last four races); we had won three events, which is just ridiculous. Needless to say I am so excited about the way things are going right now.
We brought out the new Buell at Brainerd in hopes of just getting it broken in so that it could be ready by Indy and the Countdown. We knew it was an awesome bike, but I don’t think any of us thought that it would be this good. We ran extremely well at Brainerd and even with the pain I have been going through the last few weeks, I can’t believe we have done as well as we have.
I have had kidney stones before, but not like this. I realized Saturday afternoon in Brainerd that I was in way more pain than I ever remember, so I went to the hospital. When they told me I had 10, I was shell-shocked. I drank as many fluids as possible and just tried to focus my minds elsewhere. I was doing okay until the semis at Brainerd and then I thought I was going to pass out from the pain. It was horrible. Winning that race was definitely something I will never forget.
I was going to head home after Brainerd and try to rest, but I just didn’t have enough time, so off to Reading we went. During that five-day span I managed to pass three stones, which lessened the pain tremendously. I still had pain; don’t get me wrong, but nothing like before.
We once again ran well at Reading. Reading is a track where I have never really ran well at in the past, so it was a great feeling to be No. 1 heading into raceday. I knew the points were tight between Andrew and I, so I just had to concentrate on doing my job in order to try and be on top of the points again.
Andrew went out first round and we capitalized. We ran low elapsed time every round of eliminations on Sunday. It was great! Not only did we win the race and take over the No.1 spot in the points, but we won the race at our sponsor’s home track.
Kenny Koretsky picked me up in the off-season when I didn’t think I was even going to have a chance to defend my title. He brought aboard his company, Nitrofish and man I’m I glad he did. He hasn’t been to a race yet where I have won, so to win at Reading, where his family and friends are based out of, is just the greatest feeling ever.
Angie is doing much better on the bike as well. The gremlins in her head seem to be disappearing, so we should have her up and running fast again shortly. We will both be running in Indy in two weeks, so you all will have to stop by and check us out. Dad will also be running in Indy, so the whole family will be there. Red Bull driver Scott Speed will be in our pits on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for his first ever NHRA drag race, so make sure you guys come by and see how he likes it. It should be quite interesting!
