Well, the last few weeks have been NASCAR central around here. Between the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race, the All Star race, and the Coca Cola 600 it has been crazy. Crazy, but fun, that is.
Last week, Angie and I headed down to Charlotte to go watch my sis Amanda’s truck race. We got there early enough to go tour the Cup garage and meet a ton of cool people. We hung out at Mike Skinner’s motor home for a while then headed off to explore the NASCAR world. It is a very busy world, might I add. We took a lot of pictures throughout the day. I wish I could put them all up here, because they are so neat.
So Friday night was the Truck race. Amanda handles PR for three drivers -- Mike Skinner, Johnny Benson and Scott Speed -- so needless to say it was very interesting. We sat on top of Scott Speed’s pit box during the race, which was awesome. We could see everything from there. By the way, he is one cool driver. He drives for Red Bull, so he got us into the Red Bull Energy Station the whole weekend. It is basically a really awesome dance club with food on the backstretch. It was definitely one of the highlights of the last few weeks.
So we watched the whole race, which Johnny Benson should have won, but they said he jumped the start at the end and black flagged him. Man, were they all mad. I love going to these races, because honestly they are so down to earth. Well, at least Amanda’s drivers are like that. We stayed down there that night after the race and went back the next day for the All Star race. We hung out at the energy station basically all day. It was so cool! After watching some of that race we left and headed home in order to beat traffic. Plus I knew I had a ton of stuff to work on in the shop, so off we were.
After working all week in and out of the shop, we headed back to Charlotte the next Friday for the Coca-Cola 600. Coca-Cola had a ton of media for some of the NHRA drivers to do. We had a blast. Me, Antron, Jeggie, Force, Mike Neff, and many more went down there and had a ton of fun. We all played golf on Friday, which was hilarious. We got to meet Tony Stewart, Kyle Petty, and Denny Hamlin at the track, which was cool. We also got to see Kelly Pickler in concert, which is one of my favorites.
The best part of the whole weekend though was when we got a tour of the dragstrip. Just let me say that you all are going to want to be there in September. We all got put into teams to race dump trucks at the track. Force, Antron and me were on one team, then Angie, Neff and Jeggie were on the other team. Neff’s team ended up beating us, but we still had so much fun.
It was good to take a break from working for a few weekends, especially to be around stuff that you are normally not around, like NASCAR. I am so grateful for Coca Cola for including the NHRA drivers in all of the media opportunities over the last few weeks and hopefully we have converted a few NASCAR drivers.
Oh yeah, by the way, dad was in Bahrain again all week and he kicked butt over there once again. He reset his own track record and won the race again. He loves going over there to race and they love him over there as well. He goes back in a few weeks, so he won’t be with us in Chicago. If you all are in town come check us out next week. I will write in again soon!
