Hey everybody! I know it’s been a while, but I have been working my butt off as I am sure all of you heard. Well, after Gainesville we realized we were not up to par; or at least not where I wanted to be anyway. So we got to work. I worked many long nights before Houston, sometimes till 2 a.m. or 3 a.m., but it all paid off.
We found some power on the dyno and were thrilled about it. We just hoped it would show on the racetrack. We got to Houston and man did it show. Even with the weight added we still ran well, so you can imagine how pumped I was.
We ran very consistent in qualifying, and even on race day for that matter. We ended up No. 1, which is my first of the year and we captured the Full Throttle as well. Angie got the Full Throttle Award at the first race and now me for the second one, so that was pretty cool for our team. I was thrilled about qualifying and was looking forward to race day. I had never won a round before this past Sunday in Houston. We normally qualify well there, but on raceday we just don’t do well. It’s basically all on the starting line. I told myself before going up there to just race yourself. Do what you did last year and you’ll be fine, so I did.
I had some tough opponents, I will have to say that. We had Junior Pippin first round and first round is always the worst. Everybody always just wants to get past first round. I missed the setup a bit, but we won. Then second round I had Angelle. I had Angelle in Gainesville second round and won, so I just told myself to be calm and cut a good light. We ended up beating her again, so then there was Andrew. I never won a round against Andrew last year and so far this year, up until that round I hadn’t won one yet this year. I knew it was going to be big. I left on him and outran him.
Anyway, I was pumped that I had beaten Andrew and we were now in the finals. All I had to do was get the setup right, cut a great light and hope the bike crosses the finish line first. Not too much to ask, huh?
So I just went up there and did my thing again. We ended up winning and I was super excited. Kenny’s (Koretsky) birthday was this past weekend, so it was good to bring home the Wally to someone who stepped up and helped me out this year. If he hadn’t of I probably wouldn’t be here, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY KENNY! Thanks a million!
Even though none of my family was here, I did have Mark Stockseth, who owns the bike, with us. Houston is his hometown track, so it was good to win for him as well.
I couldn’t be more excited about how things are going right now and even though I hate we have three weeks until Atlanta, it might be a good thing because we got a lot of work to do in converting other motors over to be just as good as that one that was in the bike this past weekend. My goal for Atlanta is for Angie and I to be 1 and 2 in qualifying, so hopefully our hard work will pay off again in Atlanta.
Catch ya later!
