Well guys, the 2008 NHRA season is over and not the way I had hoped, to say the least. We went in with a 19-point lead and outqualified the whole field. We looked as if we were right on track to our second championship and then it bit us. Second round the bike just quit on me.
We had some similar issues in Vegas and we re-wired everything and the Buell seemed good, but then second round it did it again. I don’t think you could imagine the frustration that set in after that round. I have been upset over a lot of things, but this was just devastating. If it would have been me that messed up I don’t think I would feel as bad, but when there is a glitch that goes wrong, there is no one to blame, that’s the part that sucks the most.
Even though it ended badly, we still managed to have a pretty decent year. We won four races and got seven No. 1 spots, I think… We were competitive and ran well and that’s all I can hope for again next year. Racing has its highs and lows, but overall I am just very thankful to be apart of it all.
Eddie is a great guy and rode well all year. To win the Championship without winning a race is incredible. He is truly a real racer and he will get that Wally next year, I’m sure.
As far as after the race was over, I just hung out with my family and friends and tried to look at all the positive points of the season before going to the banquet. We all attended the banquet in Los Angeles and had a great time. I had been planning for weeks to pop the BIG question to Angie, so I was a little nervous about how things were going to go down.
We ended up taking some pictures before the after party kicked off outside. I took some pictures with my family, some with my guys, some with the bike owner, Mark Stockseth and his wife, and then some with Angie. As I was talking to Angie I proceeded to get down on my knee and ask the question. She was shocked. She cried and then said, “Yes!” So it all worked out according to plan. It was a pretty cool way to close out the year, even without the championship.
We are still in the process of securing a sponsor for next year, so as of now our plans are up in the air. Hopefully we will land something soon and get the ball rolling in the right direction as soon as possible
