Busy, Busy, Busy…Tuesday, June 12, 2007

Okay, so I know it’s been a while, but I have had a lot going on at home here recently. The last few weeks have been brutal. Not only have we been working our butts off to run better, but if you watched the race you’d know that I have been mending from a go-kart accident.

The week before last I was working on a go-kart and when I got on it to test ride it in order to make sure it ran the throttle got hung. And needless to say I hit a ditch and it flipped over. I was cut up pretty bad around my face, so I had to back off a few days and let that heal. Taking time off is not in the books either, not in my family at least. We work till we literally can’t any more. So a few days off were tough, especially in dealing with the weight addition that has been added to the Buells.

The weight addition was pretty unwarranted in my opinion; it’s like you are punished for working hard. I wasn’t necessarily outrunning people in the back half, it was just I learned how to outrun them in the front half. Now that the Harleys have learned the same thing, they are flying and I don;t know that NHRA will do anything about that, but whatever. We will find more power and hopefully still kick their butts.

I am sure you all know by now that I have a new teammate, which I am thrilled about. It not only provides more data, but it gives us a double shot of winning on race day. Evan Knoll has stepped up and given us this opportunity and I couldn’t be any more excited then I am right now. Chris is a great rider. He is the number one leaver in the class. He brings so much to the team and I am very thankful to have him be apart of it.

Chris flew in to St. Louis last week before Chicago and we tested a bit on his bike. We ran pretty decent, but we figured out that we probably lost about three hundredths with the ten pound weight addition. We tested with it on and off the bike, and that is the number we came up with. So yes, we are a little slower than usual, but you can bet on it that we will work that much harder to find more power.

Going into Chicago we were a little hesitant as to how we would compare to everyone else. I mean, 10 pounds to us is like 40 pounds to a Pro Stock car! But after Chris and I made the first few passes, we knew we would be okay. I ended up second and Chris ended up fifth after Saturday’s last pass.

We both had tough draws first round, and nobody ever wants to lose first round. Heck, any round for that matter, but first round is the worst. We both cut good lights and ended up going into second round. We didn’t run as well as we would have liked, but that’s that.

Second round I had Chip. Chip and I always bet a dollar when we race, so it was game on. I ended up leaving on him a ton and outran him as well, so I won the dollar. Yahoo! Chris had Angelle and she was flying, even though he left on her he couldn’t run her down. I am very proud of him this week though. Adjusting to a new bike and a new team is hard, but he did a great job.

In the semi’s I had Peggy and I knew she could run the numbers with George and Shane setting her bike up, so I had to be on the tree once again. I covered her by about three hundredths and outran her, so we were off to our fourth final in five races.

We had to run Andrew, who was in a league by himself all weekend. I knew I had to nail him on the tree in order to have a chance. I cut a .008 light, almost perfect, but there was no way I or anyone else could’ve outran him. We ended up second, but stretched our points lead a little bit more and right now staying in the top eight is all that matters.

We have a week off, so we will be testing a lot. Plus its Father’s Day this weekend, so maybe we will do something fun on Sunday with dad.

Keep rooting for us and check back often. See ya!
