Hi guys and gals! Just thought I would check in and give you all an idea of what I have done the last week or so. Well, after doing a ton of interviews with the media the week after St. Louis things finally died down and got back to normal.
This past weekend I had planned on going to the Bristol race, but after it was rescheduled I had my weekend open. So Friday afternoon dad and I headed down to Lowe’s Motor Speedway for the truck race. My sister, Amanda, works in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. She handles PR for Bill Davis Racing’s trucks, so we decided to go watch the race.
We had a blast. We got to watch the trucks qualify and race on top of the NEXTEL trailer in the infield. Dad ran into one of his old buddies, so they hooked us up with a great view. We also got to watch the Cup guys qualify for the All-Star race. It was cool. Running three laps, then having to make a pit stop for your qualifying time is so exciting. They should have to qualify like that for all of their races; it would definitely make qualifying more interesting over there.
Anyway, we were hanging out at Mike Skinner’s trailer Friday afternoon and lo and behold if Don and Tony Schumacher weren’t walking towards us. We chatted with Don for a while. It’s funny that when you go to another racing series you see the same people you race with there, pretty interesting.
While we were there I got word about NHRA adding 10 pounds to the Buells and, needless to say, I am not thrilled, but that is a whole different area.
We had a great time at the race though. Her drivers did pretty well. There is lots of beating and banging in the truck series, which I think makes it more interesting than the Cup stuff.
We ended up getting home late Friday night and dad loaded up and went to a Quick 8 race early Saturday morning. He ended up qualifying number three and won the race. That is three in a row in that series. He is leading the points by a ton. Guess the Smith luck is good right now.
He got back home late Saturday night and then left Sunday to go to St. Louis to pick up a new Pro Mod car. He left from there and is now in Tulsa, Okla., racing his Pro Stock car. I will try and keep you all updated on that this weekend.
I will also try and get some pictures of the new Pro Mod car up next time, so check back soon.
