Getting back at itWednesday, April 25, 2007

Hey guys! Well after three weeks off, I literally cannot wait till this weekend in Atlanta. Atlanta is actually the closest NHRA track that bikes race on in relation to where I live. It is around a three and a half hour drive from King, N.C., to Atlanta, so we are relatively close to home, and that’s always exciting.

Even though we have been off the last few weeks, I have still been very busy. The week before last I went testing with Dad and some other cars in Darlington, S.C. The track was so rough. The bike literally completely came off of the track when I would make pass. We wanted to try a few new things that we have been working on with my bike, so I had to just ride it out.

We improved every time we ran. The last day we were there, we decided to really get after and see what this bike could do. We ran an incredible 1.056 60-foot time and ran a 6.95 elapsed time, which are incredible numbers due to the condition of the track. We thought it might have a little more, so we got back out there, and it went an astounding 1.039 60-foot, and then the bike wouldn’t shift into second. We were amazed! I don’t think I have ever heard of a bike running that kind of 60-foot time. If the bike would have shifted, there is no telling what we could have run. We have been having some problems with my bike shifting into second here lately, so we changed some things and hopefully this will not happen anymore.

This past weekend we went to Rockingham to watch Dad run. He ran rather well in qualifying, but there are about five Pro Stock cars that are bad to the bone over there right now. They all run within a hundredth of one another, so it’s pretty tough. Going into first round we knew Dad had a good car, but we had to make it count on race day. Dad was late on the Tree, which never happens normally, so he lost. We were all so frustrated, but hey that’s racing. You win some and you lose some, but you just hate to lose on something you are normally so good at. It happens to the best of them though. He’ll be back tougher than ever, you can bet on that.

I stayed and helped Dad test and few different things on Monday at the Rock and then we loaded up and came home. The last few days we have just been trying to get all my stuff ready for the next few weekends. We have Atlanta then St. Louis, back to back, so we are trying to make sure we have everything we need.

Dad is racing this weekend at Coastal Plains in his Pro Mod car, but he will be down on Friday to help me out and possibly Sunday as well. He is flying back and forth with the Humphreys. I love when he is at the track; it just makes me feel at ease about things especially when I have questions or concerns that I need answered.

Anyway, come check us out this weekend. We got some new shirts made up at the Torco souvenir trailer, so go grab some, they turned out pretty awesome. See you soon!
