Okay, so I know it’s been a while since I wrote in and I am so sorry. You can only imagine how busy and hectic things have been. So I am sure you all know by now that we won it all. We won the whole dang thing. Can you believe it? Because sometimes I still can’t believe it happened.
I mean, we thought we had a shot a few races ago, but then Andrew stretched it to a three-round lead basically and he was flying at Pomona, so I just went in there hoping to maybe win the race and that was about it. I was at the scales second round when I heard them say on the PA that Andrew went red, and I was like 'Holy crap; we still have a chance." I was so not expecting that. I went back to the pits and just focused on making the bike faster. I had been good on the Tree all weekend and I just told myself to keep doing what you know how to do and it will all work out.
We had Antron in the semi’s and I know how bad he wanted to win the race, so I just went up there just as I had in the two previous rounds and raced myself and we made it in the finals. So then it was down to me and Chip. It was a winner-take-all final and I was so pumped. To just be in that position is unreal, especially not really thinking that it would happen after branching out on our own this year, but if I had to lose to someone I would want it to be Chip. He is a great guy and either way I would have been happy to have gotten as far as we did.
We had a great bike all year and I just kept telling myself to just have fun. By the time we got to the starting line it had gotten so dark, which makes it very easy for a bike to red-light. Normally I would have changed my visor to a clearer shield, but I didn’t want to take any chances. I just left things like they had been all day and said a prayer, then fired up my bike.
When the green light came on I was gone and I never heard Chip all the way down the track. When I saw my win light and the end of the track I went crazy. I wanted to jump off my bike right there and just run around in circles. I was so happy I didn’t know what to do. Heck, I still don’t.
I knew going out on my own this year would be hard, but we put in some long man hours and it all paid off. I could have never did any of this without Evan Knoll, Latrell Preston, Mark Stockseth, Red Line Oil, Mac Tools, Technicoat, SinFuel Choppers, my dad, my mom (who sat in the stands all day that Sunday, never got up to get a drink or use the bathroom or anything), my sisters, my little boy, Tristan, my guys, James and Mike. There are so many people that helped me get here and I will never be able to thank them enough. I am so glad to have the chance to do what I love and succeed at it, is just an amazing feeling.
To all the fans who were rooting us on, you have no idea how much your support means to me. I love getting your e-mails and I love hearing what each of you have to say at the track. It is so awesome to have supporters like you all and I hope you continue to stick by us throughout the years and hopefully we can do this again next year.
This was a great season and I am not sure if anything will ever be able to top it. I mean, the final round, of the final race, winner-takes all and we did it. Who would have thought?
I have plenty of more pictures to share with you all, including some banquet info and pictures so I will write back soon.
