Having funTuesday, October 02, 2007

So, the last few days I have spent in Florida at Mike Skinner’s Charity Golf/Poker Tournament, and we had a blast. Amanda (my sister and Skinner’s PR girl) and I flew down Thursday afternoon and got put up in a super nice hotel, right on Daytona Beach. We got a really neat goody bag when we checked in, too. After settling into our rooms we headed to Daytona International Speedway for their second annual Hoe Down Bash.

I do have to say that it was my first time in Daytona and at the track, and WOW is all I can say. Around 700 guests attended the Bash at the Speedway. They had food sampling from every restaurant around Daytona, which was unbelievable food. They had Big Engine playing on stage, which if anyone is involved NASCAR or lives in Daytona you know how awesome they are. They also had live and silent auctions going on throughout the night. I actually auctioned off my helmet that I ride with right now to the charity and at the end of the year I will hand it over. It was worth a good cause, so why not. They had some really cool things that they were auctioning off too, from Steve Parks’ rookie firesuit to Vince Gill’s signed and framed guitar.

We hung out at the Speedway all night, and then went back to the hotel. We had to get up early Friday morning for the Golf/Poker Tournament. Tee off was at 8:30 a.m. There I hung out with Bo Bice from American Idol, who is a hilarious person by the way. He was having a little trouble warming up that morning, so I figured I would help out. It was way too funny. We were placed into teams of four. There were 156 golfers that played in the tournament. My team consisted of Skinner’s motorhome driver, Scott Kelley and Rick Crawford. We played pretty good, too. We ended up placing second in the tournament. Only Skinner’s team beat us and they play on the course all the time, so I figured we did well. We received a new golf driver, a cool trophy and many other things for placing second as well.

Then we ate lunch and started the poker tournament. There were over 100 poker players in the tournament, but the celebrities played their own separate game for fun. We had so much fun, I swear. I can’t wait for next year. The Final Four came down to blues singer Stacey Mitchhart, Mike Skinner, Betty Jane France and myself. Stacey ended up winning, but we all had a lot of fun at the table.

We then headed to the Skinner’s house for some dinner and awesome party. It was very exhausting to say the least, but was well worth it. I hope to go back next year. I had a blast and everyone there was so much fun to hang out with. If you didn’t come down and check it out, you all will definitely have to next year. Now back to work!!!
