Well, we didn’t have as good of a race in Denver as we thought would should‘ve. We did however learn a lot about the bikes, but thank God we are off that mountain. Denver is an absolutely beautiful place, but with the altitude being so different than every other track it gets confusing quickly. I was lucky to make as good of a run as I did for qualifying, because my bike just didn’t like the air up there. I mean, we ran pretty decent but we were expecting a lot more out of my bike. Chip’s bike was insane. It was super fast; actually it was outrageously fast. We know that Chip’s bike is somewhat faster than mine, yet we thought that my bike would have been a little closer to his. Hopefully we can fix that. Sonoma is only a few weeks away and the guys are working their butts off on making both of our bikes just as fast as the other one.
My riding style has always been the same up until I started working with George Bryce, who has taught me many different ways to improve it. Now that I have changed a thing or two, my reaction times have not been as consistent as they were before. Here lately I have been an .04 guy on the tree and hopefully will continue to adjust myself in order to get as good as I used to be.
As for dad, he has been racing non-stop. The weekend before last he ran a Pro Mod race in North Carolina and made it to the finals. Last weekend he ran in a new class called “The Mean 16” in Virginia.
He took his Pro Mod car, but in order to run this class he had to add an excessive amount of weight to the car and use different tires. This was the first time he had ever attempted to run his car with this weight and with these new tires. He ended up No.1 out of 30 cars and set the track record as well. He eventually lost in the semi’s due to the clutch locking up. But, all in all, it was a great showing.
He is actually going back the weekend we are in Sonoma and you better bet he will be prepared this time to win. Dad is a very competitive person, on and off the track. He loves to win just as any of us do, and probably works harder than anyone I have ever met in order to make that happen.
So stay tuned; you never know what might happen next!
