No Problem Raceway Park in Belle Rose, La., was recently shut down after the blowout of a nearby oil well but is preparing to reopen. Though the track did not sustain damage, the possibility of fumes in the area forced track operator Pat Joffrion to cancel most events scheduled for mid-August. Comp and Super Stock racer and Pro Stock team owner Steve Kent worked as part of the containment team. On Aug. 24, Joffrion posted the following update on classracer.com.
“It looks as though Mother Nature gave the Steve Kent team of oil-well killers a break,” said Joffrion. “At 1 a.m. this morning, the well structure at 7,000 feet below the surface appears to have collapsed, and there is no more flow out of the well. Plans are to continue drilling a relief well to complete the shut-in procedure through the existing well casing. The well is about one mile south of the track, and we were fortunate that the wind blew all of the oil and salt water away from the track and across Highway 70. Looks like we will be closed for another week until they can get Highway 70 reopened once they get all of Steve Kent's equipment and tanks moved off the shoulder of the road.”
Joffrion also noted that the track’s upcoming Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series divisional event, scheduled for Sept. 17-19, is unlikely to be affected.
