In anticipation of a 2010 Super Stock debut behind the wheel of a supercharged Cobra Jet Mustang, second-generation racer Paul Candies Jr. recently attended Frank Hawley’s NHRA Drag Racing School in Gainesville.
Candies, the son of famed Funny Car racer Paul Sr., earned his NHRA competition license at Hawley’s class and plans to eventually run in Top Dragster.
“I didn’t want to try to get a license on my own and have a bunch of different people telling me all kinds of things to do,” said Candies. “I wanted to go to the professional and do it right from the start. That professional is Frank Hawley. I went to the school with the true novice attitude. If Frank were to tell me I was doing something wrong, then I was doing it wrong. And if I was doing something right, then I must be doing a good job paying attention like the other students in the class.”
