Peter Biondo of Queens, N.Y., won his second consecutive Ultimate Gambler title at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway during the third day of the annual Thanksgiving weekend Las Vegas Bracket Nationals.
The Ultimate Gambler is a winner-take-all race with a $1,000 entry fee. This year, 22 racers entered, so Biondo pocketed $22,000.
Biondo’s reaction time of .007 made the difference in defeating final-round opponent Stefan Kondolay of Chilliwack, B.C.
Larry Richardson defeated Mark Kidd for Super Pro honors and the $5,000 winner’s check. Kidd damaged his primary car during the Ultimate Gambler competition and used a backup for Super Pro eliminations and made it to the final.
Leo Glasbrenner defeated Kyle Rizzoli for Pro honors, and Brad Plourd topped Dan Reaume for the Sportsman purse.
Minor rain delays slowed eliminations during the evening, and Super Pro and Pro classes were contested on an eighth-mile track in the interest of safety.
