Mark Pickens, MPE Motorsports president and team owner, released veteran crew chief Lance Larsen on Wednesday, ending a 28-race tenure that included driver Clay Millican’s final-round appearance in Topeka in May and qualification for NHRA’s Countdown to 1 season-ending playoffs.
“MPE Motorsports has announced the release of crew chief Lance Larsen,” Pickens said. “Lance is a knowledgeable and experienced tuner and a trusted friend. He is truly one of the good guys in the sport. Having become a close member of our personal family, we wish him the very best going forward.
“The selection of a new MPE crew chief has not yet been made. We will not be attending this weekend’s race at Richmond.”
Millican drove the Hope4ASudan/Motorvation dragster to 10th place in the 18-race regular season, earning the final position in the six-race Countdown to 1 showdown. He is 10th after the first three races.
